I chenged the thermal paste on my notebook( is a vostro 14 3468 from dell) and when I tried to turn it on appears the battery led started to blink 4 amber and 1 white and not charging. I checked everything and didn't found nothing broken I also didn't find anything about it on the internet or Dell website
Hello,
In the beginning of this week, my 1 year laptop inspiron (series 7000) started behaving like discribed in the title. The Led next to power, it blinks 4 times white - small pause - 1 amber/orange.
I couldn´t find the description anywhere. I checked if the RAM is detected, and it seems that all of it is being recognized by the system.
Any hint is appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

I have a new XPS 13 2-in-1, and its started (after one day of use) displaying a diagnostic blink pattern on the charge LED. The pattern is 1 amber blink followed by 4 white blinks, which doesn't appear to correspond to any of the documented patterns (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000141206/a-reference-guide-to-the-xps-notebook-diagnostic-indicators). Anyone have any clue what this pattern indicates? The system functions normally AFAICT but the constant blinking is both worrying and extremely annoying!
I've had my XPS 15 (2-in-1) for about 2 years now and it's been a great laptop so far. Recently, my laptop indicator light (front of the laptop, right below touchpad) has been blinking in a specific pattern (4 short amber, 1 long white). While it is blinking, the laptop will immediately shut off if not plugged in. In addition, my battery life has degraded somewhat significantly (from 75 to 38 mWh). These two combine to make it quite difficult to use my computer as a laptop since I am constantly looking for outlets in case this issue arises. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you found a solution? I'm going to try taking it to my local computer repair shop but in the mean time I thought I'd ask. Thanks!
Hey, fellow tech enthusiasts I am facing a black screen with no post and a combination of 4 white and 2 amber LED codes when opening my laptop. Laptop model is G15 Ryzen addition
Looking forward to your insights and suggestions. Thanks in advance for your tech wisdom!
My Dell XPS 15 9510 is continuously flashing 1 amber followed by 4 white. I have not been able to find what this sequence of flashes means. Does anyone know the answer?
i have g3 15 3500 since oct 2021
i was playing a game while plugged in and i noticed the battery blinking 4 amber 1 white and the device is not charging. i almost got heartbreak as all my studying is on it
i opened dell power manager and it says health is excellent so i restarted the device and everything worked well and it was charging fine
then today, the same thing happened again and its not charging
any help is appreciated
EDIT: and it initially started the same day i updated my windows
and only happens after playing resident evil 2 for 30 mins ( before the update i could play it for the entire day)
cpu max temp 75
gpu 68
What does this mean and is there a fix for it the motherboard boots but as soon as you unplug the ac it shuts off. Also it can do cpu gpu loads as soon as the gpu gets a load it power throttles to .5 ghz so also a power delivery issue
G5 5000 desktop - blinking power light - 2 amber / 4 white when turning on.
When I went to turn on my G5 5000 all I got was the blinking power light... some quick searches told me it was a memory error. I only have 1x16gb ram and it is in the second slot from the cpu (the first white tab slot). So I did the only thing I know to do, which is pull the ram and then re-seat it back in the slot. That didn't help at all, as I got the same lights. So I took the ram out again, and I put it in a different computer, and it worked fine. I saw that it showed in the total memory of that computer. So I figure it must be the motherboard. But just for fun, I decided to try the ram in the fourth slot from the cpu (the second white slot), not knowing if this would even work, since all I had ever known was to load memory sticks from near to far from cpu. Well, low and behold, when I powered it on I didn't get any blinking lights... but it went into the Pre-Boot System Performance Check and when finished said there was a critical error (which I knew). However after that I was able to get into Windows, and it has been running fine since. So I guess my initial question is, is it ok to run it in that slot ?
So here's a little bit more to the story (ah!) and trying to determine if I did this to it. As you can see in the attached photo, I have installed the Noctua NH-U9S to help with the well documented underwhelming stock cooler provided. Is there something that I could have done while installing that, that could have shorted out that memory slot ? And does this mean I am stuck with single channel memory forever ? I was just wondering (and haven't tried it yet), does this mean that the first black slot is fried too? And since the second white slot worked, and provided the first black slot works, can I just use the black slots - or does something need to be in the white slots ? Sorry for so many questions, I'm learning on the fly here.
Thanks in advance to any help that can be provided.

I unfortunately have a RAM problem (2 amber flashes followed by 4 white flashes) on my XPS 13 9305. First instance, I opened up the back, disconnected the battery and held the power button for several seconds and then the system booted back up.
After working for a few hours I had some more BSODs and now it won't boot with the same flashing sequence.
I no longer have a warranty on the system and I am aware that the RAM is soldered on to the motherboard on these XPS 13. Just wondering how to go about fixing the problem and how much a motherboard replacement might cost. I'm based in the UK.
Thanks in advance.
I bought it in 2021, still in good condition. My model is Dell inspir 5000 or maybe 5500.
I noticed there is an update and i cannot shut down witjout it, I updated and now theres 2 amber and 4 white lights. Maybe something related to RAM i guess.
Tried restarting but same issue. Last year had something similar like this took it to Dell showroom. The guy asked it will fix on its own its due to too much humidity.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I really cannot offer a bill at this moment.
I have an XPS 9300 that's decided not to boot. It's doing the 4 white/2 amber code which I believe is "Memory or RAM (Random-Access Memory) failure" which I guess is pretty fatal in this laptop?
Weird thing was at one point it went into the "Pre boot System performance screen" (after it moaned about low battery) and it PASSED all the tests...
It now wont boot and nothing i've tried seems to get it to do anything. Anyone any suggestions?
Not knowing that my brother had spilled water, I turned on my laptop and after only 5-10 minutes, my laptop crashed and restarted itself, but it crashed again. Then it started giving 2 yellow and 4 white lights, which is a malfunction of the ram. Now I'm wondering if the inside of the laptop will work fine after I dry it. If not, I'm thinking of replacing the motherboard, but is this fixable or is the motherboard completely broken?
I've had the laptop about 3 years now. I had the motherboard replaced about a year ago. It's been working fine, but today the light started flashing yellow 4 times then white 6 times. Does this mean the battery is shot, or something is wrong with the BIOS?
All the code guides I've seen online only talk about 3 amber flashes, not 4. Have I discovered a new Dell laptop error code? Lol
I am having issue with my Dell xps 8940. At first the computer won’t switch on at all. I order a new motherboard and now it is blinking the 4 white and 2 amber light. I have ordered new compactible ram as well and insert it but the issue still persist. I tried many other troubleshooting like taking of the cmos battery and putting it back in. Still no joy…. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I would always start at the power supply. Check the manufacture website about its built in self check. Try and find out the lights on the motherbored are trying to tell you.
I'd agree that it may be the power supply. What RAM have you tried? Have you tried it with more than one stick of RAM or just a single stick?
Brand new, out of box. Tried to power on then 2 amber blinks, 4 white. Got from Microsoft store, might have them exchange it. Is this an easy fix though? I have the XPS 13 QHD touch i5 8GB RAM and 256 SSD
Bad RAM or poorly seated RAM.
Have them exchange it, they're good about hassle free exchanges (at least at physical MS stores and provided you're within your return window) I had a bad battery/power subsystem error out of the box on my XPS13. 1:1 exchanged it though bear in mind that at least for the XPS13 all of the MS units were launch units.
Hi. I have an inspiron dell laptop (n5040 series) that is having some issues powering on.
The problem initially started when I woke up the morning after disconnecting the AC because there was a thunderstorm and I didnt want anything happening to the laptop while i slept. Well, upon reconnecting the ac to the laptop, I push the power button and its not starting at all. I see there are flashing lights on the battery led and think, "ok thats fine because the ac adapter is some 3rd party rocketfish thing and has never charged the battery anyway." So I proceed to take out the battery and leave the ac adapter connected. There are no leds at all now and Still no response from the power button. I decide ok its finally time to purchace the correct ac adapter and go ahead and grab a factory dell replacement charger from online and have it shipped.
Well I got that today and still I cant get a response from the laptop without having the battery connected. But now I get one prolonged white led on the battery indicator followed by 4 amber flashes and 1 white flash, then the leds will go dark. I've tried the thing where you disconnect the battery, AC adapter, and hold the power button to purge the static power or w/e but that hasn't turned any results. I know the battery should probably be replaced but even without the battery this is the correct ac adapter for this laptop so it should work without a battery, which is what i want.
There are quite a few other issues with the laptop. For one, I have the keyboard disconnected and use an external because the built in one has all kinds of bugs like continiously moving the cursor in one direction or just certain keys not working all the time. The laptop also has a whiny fan that gets really loud. Hot or not.
Its an old junker, so if I cant get this thing to work with this brand new ac adapter im just chucking it in a corner somewhere. im not putting anymore money into it.
Is there something obvious Im not doing to make this thing power? It has never had powering issues until the night i left the ac adapter disconnected. Like i said, the old offbrand charger NEVER charged up the battery so i dont get why its acting as if it needs it now.
