I just moved to the asset side of things and we just received 500 Dell laptops that all get built the exact same way.
The old guy manually launches the bios and sets each setting by hand.
As soon as I saw this and saw that we need to do 500 of these I instantly thought this can be automated.
These are Dell laptops, we F12 on boot up and select BIOS settings which manually get set before we load on the Windows 10 OS.
I'm a Computer Scientist graduate and have sufficient programming skills but I'm unsure what languages or scripting options I have at my disposal for automating BIOS settings. I've only ever created programs and scripts to run on the OS, not outside of the OS in locations like the BIOS.
Does something exist that mimics full keyboard keystrokes and can holds a long string that we can use like a macro?
Do you guys have any suggestions on ways to automate this process?

I have just connected an external to my inspiron 1545 which has a VGA output and rebooted. At first I could only see the Dell Logo but nothing on my external screen.So I instantly pressed F12 to get access to Boot options and to stop the system from booting into Windows.Using FN and F1 I was able to switch between internal and external screen.... I think that all Dell systems use F1 for screen switching - if in doubt check the manual

Hi, Loading the BIOS to defaults should enable the wireless card again. Here are the steps to do so: Restart the computer and keep tapping the F2 key to enter BIOS. Use the Up and Down arrow key to select 'General'. Click 'Load Defaults'. 4. Click 'OK'. 5. Click 'Apply'. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Alternatively, the other way to enable the Wireless card in the BIOS is: Restart the computer and keep tapping the F2 key to enter BIOS. Expand the 'Wireless' tree. Click 'Wireless Devices'. Ensure that the 'Enable Internal Wireless WLAN' and 'Enable Internal Bluetooth' options are checked. Click 'Apply'. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Please post back the results.

Do you mean disable/enable UEFI Secure Boot?

1 Right Click on the Windows icon and click on Shut down and restart.
2. Press the F2 key right after your computer is restarting. This will take you to the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
3. Look for the Boot or System Configuration tab and Click on Boot. Select Boot, under the Boot tab, use the up and down arrows to and press Enter.
4. Under the Boot screen, go to UEFI/BIOS Boot Mode and press Enter.
