If the battery has been replaced with a compatible model and still does not work, there may be a motherboard fault. Can you try a BIOS update and test again with the new battery? I have a dell g5 5587, i changed the fans and keyboard by myself (not the first time i dissemble it), the laptop is 6 years old, when i was changing things i kept the cmos battery connected and disconnected everything else, after finishing things when i was trying to boot up the laptop to check everything it didnt bootup at all, at first i thought it might be a power up button problem but after checks it seemed like its not, I removed cmos battery and plugged in the laptop with charger it immediately turned on (only keyboard and led) and then led flashed me 3 orange and 1 white lights, i reseated the cmos battery and tried again, same problem, sometimes with cmos battery hooked the laptop doesnt make anything other than flashing once i plug it in with one white light but then i wont be able to boot it at all and power button doesnt turn it on, I tried removing cmos and holding the power button for 30 seconds and plug it again but it didnt work, I encountered the same problem before but I solved it with the 30 seconds thing, is there any thing i can do and is it a big problem or a small one (im hoping i just need to replace cmos battery) could it be a power button failure too ?

Update, turns out that the power button connector wasn’t registering, I cleaned both copper ends of the connector and it worked fine.

Hi @henson79010 · Try resetting the BIOS by performing a full power refresh. · Disconnect the main battery from the motherboard, remove the coin cell RTC battery from the motherboard, press and hold the laptop's power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it. · Reinsert the coin cell battery (+ve side up), reconnect the main battery to the motherboard, reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and then check if it starts OK. · Update (12/29/23) · If the motherboard is a Compal LA-J108P/J109P here's the · schematic. · The Power button is on p.77 top left of page.

Hello, i have a Dell Latitude 3590 and it was overheating for the last 2 days. Yesterday i replace the thermal paste and cleaning it(without the battery connected but the cmos connector still connected), it work just fine for a moment. But after i shut it down and turn it on few hour later it shows 3 amber and 1 white indicator. I replace the CMOS battery then it working again. But this morning when its happening again. I tried with new CMOS battery and the old CMOS battery it didnt work.
Can somebody help me pls. Any help would be much appreciated. ( Sorry for my bad english )

Error code: 3 amber, 1 white = CMOS battery failure It's a CR2032 coin cell battery, ~$2-$3. Read/follow instructions here. Be sure to put a soft/clean cloth down under the screen when you turn PC over to start the procedure, so you don't scratch the LCD.

Hi - I have the same problem but still persists even after changing the CMOS battery for a new one (white light blink, pause, amber light blinks three times in quick succession, pause and repeat). Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you use a brand new CMOS battery that you purchased or one that you had sitting around? Also which cable did you unplug and then 'put it back'? Make sure the CMOS battery is secure in the holder and is right side up (you should see the + on the battery facing up). Also when you replaced the battery did you leave the battery out of the holder for 15 minutes before inserting the new battery? Of course since the system worked fine before you cleaned it out then the possibility exists that you could have affected the MB such as a loose RAM module, a short on the MB, or bent the CMOS battery holder contacts.

After the 15 min, put all the things back, and charge the power adapter again, the laptop goes 3 Yellow 1 white again to give a feedback for few time. Then, power light and the laptop turn off again. Put the power adapter again and the power light only turn on a few second without any signal again.
