We have the same problem and it's driving me nuts. We also tried downloading the file from the URL and verified that the signature is valid. Everything installs just fine, it just can't update the BIOS. We also tried different versions of DCU, but no dice. This seems to be new, we've been using DCU to update our dell bioses since forever without any errors. r/SCCM on Reddit: Dell Command Update not updating BIOS to latest version
February 16, 2024 -

This technically isn't a SCCM issue, but I figure the SCCM subreddit will have more knowledge and experience than other subreddits.

I'm working on setting up Dell Command Update for the first time to download drivers and update the BIOS as part of my OSD task sequence. I followed this guide to setup DCU and the modifications to the TS: https://alteredadmin.github.io/posts/how-to-update-dell-drivers-and-bios-during-sccm-osd/

Everything seems to work well, but looking at the BIOS version and the log produced by DCU, it doesn't appear to be grabbing the latest version of BIOS available. For example, a Latitude 5430's latest BIOS version is 1.19.0, and is marked as critical. However, DCU pulled and installed 1.17.1. I could see it not pulling a recommended version, since it's not "critical," but it skipped a critical and a recommended to choose an older critical version.

Running DCU in the freshly-imaged OS also doesn't report that there's a newer version to install. It's better than nothing, but this is confusing me why it's not pulling the latest BIOS version.

How to Use Dell Command Update to Update All Drivers, BIOS, and Firmware For Your Computer | Dell US
Dell Command Update prepares for a driver restore. This may take several moments. You must extract the driver cab for the specific computer onto a USB drive or other location. The CAB file can be loaded to baseline the Device Manger and prepare the computer for a full update check by specifying the location. You can export a complete report of all current drivers, firmware, and BIOS versions by selecting System Information on the left side of the main screen, then selecting Export.

r/Dell on Reddit: Problem with Dell Command Update , BIOS update fails.
September 13, 2019 -

So Dell Commad Update tells me there is an available Bios update. Fine, I want to update the Bios.

It warns me that the power adapter and other equipment (like my Docking station) must be unplugged to uptade the BIOS. However, when I unplug I get another warning telling me that the update cannot be installed without the Power adapter plugged in. So I plug it in, ignore the first warning and click update... Then after a while, it tells me the update failed.

Anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Why is BIOS update failing? | DELL Technologies
February 15, 2025 - So then I accessed that partition and replaced the bios recovery file with the updated version but could not get it to do a recovery from that newer version. Suspcious that the file sizes were very different I stumbled upon this article which talks about extracting the actual bios image from the executable (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000130691/bios-recovery-steps-for-a-no-post-issue-on-alienware-aurora-r5-r6-r7-r8-r9-r11-and-xps-8910-8920-8930-pcs). The command line switches in this post produced errors, which led me to try /? and that gave me /s /r as switches with which to run the bios executable from within Windows (I booted into Win10 for this).
