Unable to Install Dell Command Update on Windows 11 Pro/Business 24H2 build 26100
Did you ever find a solution? Same scenario Precision 5690, Hybrid Joined, Autopiloted, Windows 11 24H2. All msi installers now fail. I’ve done sfc and dism, combed through log after log of error 1001 and 1603. Done uninstall and reinstall of .NET’s and c++ redists. Event viewer shows generic msiexec error. There are lots of Dell Trusted Platform errors and BIOS Verification failures. Even though the actual BIOS logs don’t have any. I have tried reinstalling Dell Drivers including the Dell Trusted Device to hopefully clear the BIOS Verification. But none of it installs bc of 1603 errors. It seems to have started when we started using Precision 5690’s that were shipped with windows 11 24h2. Any help/ideas? More on reddit.com

Something has definitely changed with the installation of Dell Update Command. I've tried to install version 5.5 on 3 new freshly installed Windows 11 computers, and each time I get the "The wizard was interupted before Dell Command|Update could be completely installed" error. More on dell.com

I have been trying to install Dell command update on our latest batch company laptop which is Autopilot enrolled with Hybrid Entra join with no luck. Our laptop model is Latitude 5420 (refurb). I tried Universal 5.4, and previous versions and also classic but no difference.
In the logs it says the OS is not supported, I don't know why.
roperty(S): UnSupportedOSDetected = Aborting the installation process as the application is not supported on your operating system.
Any one faced a similar issue before? Really appreciate any suggestions

I'm having the same problem, I have one network running Win 11 24H2 and another running Win 11 23H2 but having the same problem on both. We usually roll it out as an MSI. I've created test groups on both networks and tried installing manually from a fresh download and still get the same issue. Two machines did originally install DCU 5.4 but I uninstalled it to then test the MSI and now they keep saying an older version has been detected & do I want to continue the upgrade? I click yes then it says it couldn't complete. I check the logs and its says the same as Bajoii is getting: Property(C): UnSupportedOSDetected = Aborting the installation process as the application is not supported on your operating system. I've checked Program Files and Program Files (x86) (inc Common Files) to check for leftovers but nothing. I've also tried installing DCU 5.3 but still get the same problem, except it gives a pop up saying: 'Aborting the installation process as the application is not supported on your operating system. Minimum supported OS build number is: 14393' Any ideas?

June 16, 2025 - Windows 11 already contains .net 4.8.1 integrated The setup fails even if we install a more updated version of .net. We always have to fight with Windows to upgrade .net and then remove the 4.8.1 version and force the 4.8 that command update likes.

Hi! Today I have encountered this issue while I was preparing a Dell Precision workstation at work. Finally, making some searches and tests on the computer I have found out that Dell Command Update 5.5 requires '.Net Desktop Runtime 8' to be installed previously on the system. You can download the installer from the following URL: Download .NET 8.0 (Linux, macOS, and Windows) (Maybe installing just '.NET Runtime 8' instead of '.Net Desktop Runtime 8' is enough, I haven´t tested it yet.) I hope it helps more people with the same trouble. Regards!

When I clean installed Windows 11 and on top of that tried to install Supportassist, it is not installing completely. Is anyone else having the same issues? I tried installing Dell Update and Command update and both are working perfectly and installed all the drivers. Which one should I keep? I am asking this because as per the manual Dell Update is compatible with my system and not command update.

SupportAssist is a pain in the rear end, so I just uninstalled it. Dell Update (without the Command) stopped being supported at the end of 2024. Dell Command | Update is where it's at, but you need to uninstall the commandless Dell Update before you can successfully install Dell Command | Update.

We recently did a slow release by installing Dell Command Update in new images (so not directly from Intune) and configuring it to update itself via the Intune ADMX. So right now, only about 5% of devices have Dell Command Update. We have it configured to update once per month.
How has it worked for you? Do you have any horror stories? Do you have any config recommendations?

DCU is one of the few pieces of Dell bloat that I configure on my images. We use Monitor to configure bios passwords and SupportAssist for Business PCs to monitor status in Dell Tech Direct. DCU has always been solid for me to use command prompt remotely in the backend to install firmware.

I am trying to install the Dell Command | Update Driver on my Inspiron 7306 2-in-1 Laptop but I keep getting this pop-up window during attempted install. I have windows 11 and I downloaded the windows 11 compatible version of the DCU.

Inspiron is a consumer device and probably has Dell Update already installed. Command Update is meant for business devices. As it’s telling you, you need to uninstall that first, but you may be better off sticking with Dell Update which is meant for your device.

Dell Command Update is for Enterprise and doesn't support the Inspiron range. You should install Dell SupportAssist

I had a similar issue, Windows 11, 'Dell Update' just hung while trying to load. The service 'Dell Client Management Service' was not started. Using 'services.msc' to start the service, it failed to start, and it said to use 'sxstrace' to debug. The issue was a something wrong with this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\ServiceShell.exe.Config I just renamed that file (to '.old'), started the service successfully, then ran 'Dell Update' successfully.

I'm running that same Windows 11 build on my XPS 8930, and Dell Update works fine. The version installed is 4.2.1. I just ran it for the first time in a while and it reports 4 updates. Noting that it says there's also an update for Dell Update (screenshot). What version of Dell Update are you running? Windows 11 preview isn't supported by Dell but the release version of 11 will be.

@Rich Downey your way works good for me. thanks again I also found another way that seems to be working great also for my systems. IF any of the Dell folders exist delete them and recreate manually Create, change owner to 'Authenticated Users' & give 'Authenticated Users' full permissions to this and all subfolders C:\Program Files\Dell c:\ProgramData\Dell C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_62KRK_WIN64_5.5.0_A00_02.exe extract DCU to C:\Temp\DCU 5.5 use task manager kill windows explorer. from admin cmd run c:\temp\dcu 5.5>DellCommandUpdateApp_Setup.exe /S /v/qn done this several times now and it works for me. the permissions for C:\ProgramData\Dell switch back but dell command keeps working.

Good afternoon, we are imaging by SCCM and install DELL 5.5.0 DCU with installed exist code seen. Then when we come to use software its gone!! Win 11 24H2 OS. Bit weird, were getting the hit on this as we have upped our OS security controls but this article seems to be relevant. Anyone get anything like this. Looks like DEll DCU needs latest TPM and .NET. Unfortunately we need earlier installed .NET for other software, it is very weird! Cheers
