Dell messed up big time publishing their untested firmware update, causing overheating and degrading battery.
Bios 1.30.0 version does not fix the problem. The problem i believe after reading this guy's post https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/inspiron/my-dell-g15-5520-lag-and-studder-after-updating-the-bios-to-1290/6762c01afdfadd2667ab728a?commentId=6789b7a6efb69d295663eb36 and this guy's https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/1hwj0p8/comment/m7a39m5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button is that the firmware is supplying Nvidia gpu 30W of power when its disabled (d3cold in arch-linux) when its running tho, it can goes to d3-hot, ie lowest power usage (nvidia gpu takes 10 W) and the total battery drain is reduced to 20 ish watt (in linux) i ran nvtop to wake up the gpu and initially it reports Gpu: 1702MHz MEM 7001MHz then goes to GPU 210MHz MEM 405MHz. i specifically remember this problem started to happened when windows decided to update the firmware out of the blue. and i gave almost a month trying to understand what conf i messed up in my arch system. even tho there wasn't any problem with it lol . DELL PLS FIX IT MY BATTERY LIFE IS AT 70 percent NOW PLSSS BEG U More on reddit.com

What's the best way to upgrade the firmware and Bios on Dell servers?
If you have a few servers then Dell OpenManage Enterprise is probably worth setting up as it makes accessing idrac info nice and easy. For single servers just booting in to lifecycle manager should work well enough. More on reddit.com

r/Dell on Reddit: Firmware Update from Windows Update?
July 3, 2024 -

Hello Everyone. Hope you're well. I have a Dell G15 5515 (Ryzen Edition) Laptop.

Windows Update shows up this firmware update 1.19.0. I currently have 1.16.0 BIOS installed. I always updated my BIOS from Dell Update and manually with the executable.

Weeks ago I don't know what happened but dell update app showed an update but suddenly disappeared after some days before this.

On dell support webpage the version 1.16.0 is the lastest available the 1.19.0 doesn't appear.

I've never had problems with BIOS updates and I don't really know if it's good idea to update to that version from Windows Update.

Shall I update it from Windows Update? Or anyone has this version.

I'm about to reinstall Windows to have a clean install because I have a lot of stuff I don't really need.

Someone knows if it will update the firmware automatically? Thankfuly it didn't.

I will be waiting for your answers, I appreciate it very much.

Edit:

Just used my computer today, and Windows downloaded and forced me to install the firmware update (turn off and update, and restart and update) It successfully updated. And now my laptop is on BIOS version 1.19.0. just installed and didn't noticed something bad. edit this comment if I found something weird. attach the link to the video of the entire process that recorded.
