Reliable Dell firmware update method
Dell OpenManage Enterprise is what many people use. However, I haven't had any trouble uploading and updating via DRAC as long as you are doing it correctly. I've updated hundreds of Dell R630s and R640s via Powershell scripts. More on reddit.com

r/Dell on Reddit: Firmware Update from Windows Update?
July 3, 2024 -

Hello Everyone. Hope you're well. I have a Dell G15 5515 (Ryzen Edition) Laptop.

Windows Update shows up this firmware update 1.19.0. I currently have 1.16.0 BIOS installed. I always updated my BIOS from Dell Update and manually with the executable.

Weeks ago I don't know what happened but dell update app showed an update but suddenly disappeared after some days before this.

On dell support webpage the version 1.16.0 is the lastest available the 1.19.0 doesn't appear.

I've never had problems with BIOS updates and I don't really know if it's good idea to update to that version from Windows Update.

Shall I update it from Windows Update? Or anyone has this version.

I'm about to reinstall Windows to have a clean install because I have a lot of stuff I don't really need.

Someone knows if it will update the firmware automatically? Thankfuly it didn't.

I will be waiting for your answers, I appreciate it very much.

Edit:

Just used my computer today, and Windows downloaded and forced me to install the firmware update (turn off and update, and restart and update) It successfully updated. And now my laptop is on BIOS version 1.19.0. just installed and didn't noticed something bad. edit this comment if I found something weird. attach the link to the video of the entire process that recorded.

r/sysadmin on Reddit: Reliable Dell firmware update method
December 8, 2021 -

Hi,

i try to update our dell firmware because of the recent iDrac issues. I like to update all components not only the idrac.

Frist i tried the HTTPS and FTP method. But they dont work anymore. (HTTPS with the required LC version)

Then i created a USB Stick with the ISO. Worked fine for one server. Other one boot from this stick but i cannot launch the update utility (stuck at grub menu)

Offline FTP with DRM does also not work. No real documentation about folder structure for ftp server access.

So my big question is, how can i reliable update different dell series 14 servers? I dont have any vCenter or SCCM.

Regards.
