r/Dell on Reddit: dell inspiron 13 7000 (7306 model) 2 in 1
March 19, 2022 -

i saw a dell inspiron 13 at best buy and kinda fell in love with it. it’s on clearance and i think the model was discontinued. before buying any laptops i looked at a lot of reviews and found out the inspiron is pretty cool and on par to some other 2 in 1’s.

Before i buy it, i wanted to get more of people’s opinions wether its worth it to get it or not since there isnt a lot of reviews on this laptop this year. I will be using this laptop for mostly productivity with playing some games on the side like genshin and minecraft and maybe valorant.

so if anyone has owned this model of the dell inspiron, could you tell me pros/cons about it? hows the battery life after a productive day? any complications?

I have the inspiron 7306 2in1 black edition: i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD. I have had it for about a year and a half maybe. Let's start with the bad first: Bluetooth keyboard connectivity: When I have too many tabs open in FireFox (I admit I use more than 10+ tabs and 3 FireFox windows at the same time), or any other program that is resource heavy, like games, (Dead Space 2 or Dishonored 1) then laptop will get slow to the point where the input from my bluetooth is sometimes not recognised or laggy as hell. E.g. I type hello and it would type 'h' after 1-3 seconds, then the rest of the words and forgetting the 'llo' altogether. I think it is due to underpowered CPU, but I could be wrong here, just my baseless speculation. Overclocking CPU: I used a tool called Throttle Stop to overclock my CPU and it is much better, the base speed of 1.69GHz slows it down too much. I use a regular Bic ball point pen to hold my laptop slightly above the surface to allow more cooling - it is a bit cold here where I am, so laptop does not overheat too much and fan noise is fine. Still, I would look for a stronger CPU than inspirons. Drivers: I personally had hell with drivers. One time Windows/Dell fucked up their drivers and my audio would not work at all - Dell support was shit and did not help with anything. I had to do everything on my own, after countless reinstallations and troubleshooting, one day, it worked and I turned off all updates since. After that it is working fine to today and I have no issues with audio. Lesson = if it works, DO NOT update. This also messed up F.lux, showing random red lines across the screen, fixed it by using Windows Night Light. Oof, that was heavy and grim, again, maybe it was just my experience, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary), let's take a look at some good sides. Portability: One of my fav things about this hunk of junk. It is 13 inch, it is super light, small and fits into my backpack perfectly. It is super lightweight, very easy to carry around. Build: I know some complained about the build quality, but I find it to be just fine - I really enjoy the keyboard, except the stupid delete button, which is right next to the power button. Whichever dumb mofo designed this shit should get slapped in the head. Screen: Screen is quite gorgeous, but brightness levels are lacking when it is exposed to the sun. Don't expect to work comfortably with a lot direct sunlight around. With that said, the screen is clear and sharp, even the 1080p. Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C): I think it's 4. This is godsend. What this means is that I hooked up my laptop to 3 screens, keyboard, docking station and other stuff using just Thunderbolt 4 and 1 HDMI cable for my main monitor. Super easy, plug in and go, you got a workstation. Micro SD reader: Still useful, even today. Especially when some fucker hits your car and you got it recorderd on your car camera, that happens to be an SD Card cam. Battery life: I use my laptop and highest performance mode always, so the battery drains quite quickly, but on balanced it will last 5 or more hours. Depends on your workload, brightness, overclocked CPU etc. Backlit keyboard: Different stages of backlit keyboard, e.g. dim, bright, super bright. Privacy shutter: It has a front-facing camera with a built in privacy shutter, I think it is a very nice touch. Trivia: I once saw on Reddit, 8-10 years ago, someone called a laptop backwards, the "potpal". It makes for an excellent companion when you take it to the pot. Conclusion: if you have an option of buying a laptop with a stronger CPU, go for it and do your research - if you have no options bc of money or something - this laptop is not bad at all. It is more than adequate for basic needs, can run multiple things and you can take it with you literally anywhere. It has touchscreen too and can be held like a book for reading or watching movies. Personally, if I were to buy a laptop again, I would probably look at Lenovo range or stronger Dell line-up, but be careful, Dell has a history with overheating, so watch out for that in their Dell XPS/Precision laptops. Edit: I thought it would benefit you/someone reading this down the line of what programs I use/HOW I use my laptop: 3 screens connected with Thunderbolt 4 and 1x HDMI. I use VS Code for coding, 10+ FireFox tabs for reading documentation, Reddit, etc. I use Libre Office Writer for taking notes, I watch YouTube as well. Sometimes I run a virtual machine from my laptop, which is fine and working okay but it is heavy on the laptop in some cases, especailly RAM. Leisure time, I run Dishonored 1 in 1080p, max settings, again, CPU causes my wireless keyboard to messup, so I tone down the settings. In general, I would describe this as heavy usage. But the laptop is working fine, so I'll give it props for that, especially since it's a tiny laptop.

Please never ever buy the inspiron 13 2in 1, the hinges put stress on the motherboard, and inevitably break the chassis (happened twice to me, on two separate brand new models) later on, if you open and close it too much, it will die

Dell Inspiron 13 7000series
You're going to have to rip into that thing and see if the CPU is removable. I'm guessing it won't be. If it can, then you have to stick to whatever CPUs have the same pinout, bus, and chipset. More on reddit.com

2-in-1s: XPS 13 or Inspiron 13 7000?

Hi,

If it helps I did a comparison here: Dell XPS 13 9365 2-in-1 vs Dell Inspiron 13 7373 2-in-1

It very much depends on what you're going to do with it. I think the XPS has a better build quality: aluminum vs plastic but. As for performance - the Inspiron has a quad-core CPU. But, if you want an external GPU - go for the XPS.

For similar laptops, check this out: noteb search

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

Sorry for the mix-up : re read your post - you want a 2in1

Any thoughts on the 2018 Inspiron 13 (7380)?
It's pretty cheap on the Dell outlet store. i7-8565U, 16GB of RAM with a 512GB SSD for about $765 after coupon. Curious how it compares to the XPS 13, the 9370 model costs about $1100 on the outlet store for a similar config. More on reddit.com

Looking to buy Inspiron 13 7380 but no reviews

Hi,

I also haven't heard much about the Inspiron 13 7380. However, for the best battery life and portability, the LG Gram 13 is the best in your price range. No other ultrabook can beat this laptop in both weight and battery life with the same specifications. Its components are capable for your use.

The weight is around 2.1lbs, battery life is 12+ hours for light general use. The OS is Windows 10 Home, typical in this price range.

With the i5 processor and 8 GB RAM, you should be able to run programming software and VMs.

The keyboard is backlit and this laptop has USB-C.

Let me know if you have any questions.
