July 9, 2022Help my Dell laptop won't turn on I've done everything said from the internet
Dell laptops have issues with the power regulation chip. What you need to do is pull the back cover off and unplug both the main battery and the CMOS battery. You need to be very very careful removing the CMOS battery. Do not pull the battery out by the wires. I find it’s best to use a plastic pry tool of some form, whether it be a spudger, old credit card or some other thin semi-semi blunt plastic tool. If you rock the two sides back and forth then push out the connector down the center, it will come out. The CMOS battery looks like this: https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/rWTpWLLvSdZ36TQU.large Once you have both batteries unplugged, hold the power button for 60 seconds. Yes, really, 60 seconds. Plug both batteries back in and plug in the charger, then attempt to turn the laptop on. If all went well, the CPU fan should spin over a few times before the machine finally boots back up. It looks like what's broken is the retainer just above the power button itself, which in turn appears to be part of the palmrest assembly (compare picture below). That's likely what you'll need to replace. https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=26064

Before buying anything, take the system apart and see what's broken. The button appears to be just a plastic trim piece over the actual power button. If it's the switch assembly that's broken, replace it. If the actual trim piece is what's broken, note that it's unlikely to be available separately short of buying a complete assembly.

Here's the story.Got home yesterday and tried to turn on my laptop, and it wasn't turning on/booting fast enough. I had already had a stressful day, so there was a major lack of patience on my part. So i kept on pressing the power button and holding it down etc, and I pressed it very hard before eventually quitting. Then I take a break, I try the power button again but this time there is no click/compression. I'm not sure if it's jammed or anything but it won't click/compress (almost like there is a spring missing). So I sit there for a while starring at the screen and all of a sudden it turns on (blue screen says something about repair; was too fast for me to read).
I take the thing apart following instructions online to try and un-jam the power button, maybe it's stuck in a constant hold position, I'm now at the final step and not sure what is happening because there is compression but no spring back when against the power button pcb. I'm not sure what is wrong I need any help at all.
Do you think I broke the capacitor in the power button pcb or maybe I exceeded the limit of proportionality in the surrounding plastic and negatively alter the elastic modulus from applied stress/strain?
