If you can try to get a 5500u ryzen then its a six core cpu . The 11th gen is quad core when there are so many six core cpus for the same price. Also the i3 is faster cause its on a newer arch .(cpu speed is not just based on just ghz or ram speed alone lot of other factors affect it) But regardless for normal use it wont make a meaningful difference to return it . But try to get at-least 16 gigs rams as 8 gb is becoming to low nowadays. 8 is fine but 16 is the future More on reddit.com

First clean the fan. Upgrading to 8gb and replacing the HDD with an SSD will make it a lot faster. Should ~$70 in total with a 512GB ssd

Hi,
I bought my parents a Dell Inspiron 15 model with the 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 for $349.99 a few days ago, but I noticed today that they put a new configuration with the 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-1215U for $329.99. The only other difference between the models on their spec sheet is that the i5's RAM is at 3200 MHz while the i3's RAM is at 2666 MHz.
When I look at online benchmarks, the i3 beats the i5, so it looks to me that the i3 configuration is better than the i5 configuration. I was planning to return the i5 laptop and buy the i3 laptop instead.
Is there any reason to keep the i5 laptop over the i3 laptop? My parents would just use the laptop for web browsing, but it would be nice to get a better laptop and save $20. Thanks!

The i3 version 12 does have nice speed for basic tasks or even light gaming. As another person mentioned, there have been some great Dell prices on their Inspiron AMD 15 inch model. It is often in the $400 range. I have a Lenovo with a chip similar to the AMD Dell it has great speed and great battery life.
