Hi everyone, If your Dell laptop won’t power on and you notice the white LED lights up for a second and then turns off, here’s what it means and what you can try. What Does This Indicate? This usually points to a power-related issue, it could be the adapter, battery, DC jack, or in some cases, the motherboard. Troubleshooting Steps Try these steps in order: Perform a Hard Reset Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable). Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power. Reconnect the battery and adapter, then try powering on. Check the Power Adapter Ensure the adapter light is on and stable. r/Dell on Reddit: Laptop wont turn on, Light flashing orange and white
September 1, 2024 -
So my laptop froze so I decided to turn it off by holding down the power button for a few seconds and when I tried to turn it on, it didnt work. Now im leaving it to maybe fix itself, but the charging light flashes orange and then white. I tried to look up what it meant but everything said it was a hardware issue, which I didn't think would be possible since it was only a crash, and I've done this multiple times and it never happened before. Should I leave it be or should I do something.

Try unplugging the computer. Let the battery run down 100%. Recharge. See what happens. Edit: If you feel comfortable opening the laptop, remove the battery. Hold the start button for about 15 seconds, then reinstall the battery. Reassemble computer cover. Try restarting the computer. Good luck.

The reset procedure actually is to disconnect the battery and the adapter. Then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try to reboot. Run a diagnostic procedure by tapping F12 immediately at boot. If it runs properly watch for any errors. That flashing amber light means a low battery charge. It is possible that the battery needs to be replaced or that the adapter is not charging the battery properly. If the adapter light stays on then a short is not likely. If possible try another Dell adapter. It is also possible that the DC jack is having problems and needs to be replaced. Least likely cause, the MB charging circuit is not working.

It’s possible that the battery has reached the end of its lifespan. Battery Report Check: Create a battery report to check the status of your current battery. Open a Command Prompt window (search for 'cmd' in the Start menu). Type the following command and press Enter: powercfg /batteryreport This will generate a battery report. Locate the report file (usually saved in your user folder) and open it. Compare the Design Capacity value with the Full Charge Capacity value. For a healthy battery, these values should be nearly the same. Battery Replacement: If the tests indicate that your battery is not reaching its full capacity, consider replacing it. Temporary fix/Workaround: Hard Reset Turn off the laptop. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery or simply remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect all devices such as USB drives, printers, webcams, and media cards (SD/xD). Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power. Connect the AC adapter and battery. Turn on the computer. Please contact support by clicking the ‘Get Help Now’ button located at the bottom right corner of the page. snkendall3, NOTE: The power button does not have a LED. The LED indicator lights on the front edge of the system specify the following: Front LED Features 1 White light – Power adapter is connected and the battery is being charged. 2 Amber light – Battery charge is low or critical. 3 HDD activity light – Turns white when the laptop reads or writes data. NOTE: These LEDs are not diagnostic indicators. To avoid data loss, users should never turn off the laptop while the HDD activity indicator is flashing.

Thank you for your suggestions, I have run the diagnostic tool and found the error code 0132. Which means I may have to reseat the battery or replace it ? my system shows windows is updated, so I am assuming there is no need to update BIOS ? I haven’t replaced original battery in the last 5 years. Can I run the laptop with Charger for shorter duration till I fix the battery issues?
