Hi,
I have this weird scenario where the keyboard and caps lock light up on pressing the power button, but the screen remains blank (no Dell logo). After a few seconds, the keyboard light goes off too.
Some background
-
This machine was effectively running by plugging into a power outlet as its charger had lost capacity.
-
One fine day, it says battery not detected, and on the next start, the original problem (keyboard lighting up but not booting) occurs. I remove the battery; the laptop runs and functions as normal.
-
The next day, the problem (lighting up but not booting) occurs again, despite the battery having been removed. I do a hard reset (holding power for 30 seconds) and it starts again.
-
A day or so later, it takes a fair bit of time to boot. Task manager/startup shows 27 seconds as the boot time; used to be 6 seconds earlier. Once booted, it functions normally. However on the next restart, the keyboard shows issues (multiple strokes for a single button press, and sometimes no strokes/letters appear at all)
-
A day or so later, it refuses to start at all (the original problem of keyboard lighting up for a few seconds when power is pressed, but screen is blank) Nothing I do (including the hard reset) helps.
Any ideas/suggestions/fixes?
Hi,
Thanks for the update, Chris. If your Nitro V 15 just heats up with no display, Yes, it could be a hardware issue. It might be the GPU, motherboard, or even bad RAM. If you can, try re-seating the RAM.
Also try shining a flashlight on the screen if you see a faint image, it might be a screen backlight issue.
Since nothing's working, best to have a technician check it.
Regards,
Hey there!
Nice to meet you! I'm Randy, an Independent Advisor.
Hey Chris, sounds like your PC froze after the graphics driver crash. Since the keyboard lights are on but the screen stays black, it might be stuck or not sending display output.
First, try a full power reset. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut it down. Unplug it (or remove the battery), then hold the power button again for 15 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. Watch for any signs on the screen.
If still black, try connecting to an external monitor or TV. Sometimes it switches display output after a crash. Also, check if you hear startup sounds that can tell us if it’s booting.
To force Safe Mode, turn the PC on and off three times during boot. It should go to recovery. Choose “Startup Settings” > “Enable Low-Resolution Video.” That might let you in with basic graphics.
If that works, uninstall the graphics driver in Device Manager, then restart. Windows will load a basic one, and you can reinstall the latest driver manually.
Best regards,
Please can someone help me? My machine is a precision 7530, more precisely the config i7 8850H— Quadro P2000.
After enabling the « Switchable Graphics » option in the BIOS, my machine refuses to start. When I press the power button, the keyboard and the button light up, then turn off immediately, then it repeats the loop by itself as in the video.
I don’t know what to do. I am a student, and I need this machine because I can’t afford another one.
PS : I live in Togo, a country where there is no representation of Dell. I’m not even the original owner of the machine since it’s a second-hand purchase.
PS2 : Sorry for my bad English, I’m from a French speaking country
