Let us try repairing the existing OS.

On a working computer, create an Installation media of Windows 10 that allows you to repair existing Windows Installation.

Create a USB Flash Drive

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create...

Boot from the USB Flash drive-Make sure you have disabled Secure boot/Fast boot in BIOS Settings.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/21756-boot-...

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/21284-enabl...

Then open Advanced Startup options after the computer boots from USB. Click Repair your computer at the first screen that says Install now.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-a...

Select Startup repair, let it finish the job and see if the computer can boot afterward.

If that doesn't help, consider doing a clean install after rescuing your files.

Quick Fix — Try This First Power off the laptop → unplug the AC adapter and all peripherals → hold the power button for 15–20 seconds → reconnect the AC adapter only → power on.This simple hard reset resolves the issue in many cases. If it doesn't, continue with the full guide below. Troubleshooting StepsStep 1: Hard Reset Hold the power button for 10 seconds to force shutdown. Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals. Remove the battery (if removable). Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds. Reconnect battery (if applicable) and AC adapter only. Power on. If it boots to Windows successfully, no further steps are needed. If the issue persists, continue to Step 2. Step 2: Reset BIOS Defaults Power on and press F2 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup. Select Load Defaults or Restore Settings. Verify that Boot Mode (UEFI/Legacy) matches your drive's partition scheme (GPT = UEFI, MBR = Legacy). Save and exit. If it boots to Windows successfully, no further steps are needed. If the issue persists, continue to Step 3. Step 3: Run Built-In Diagnostics Power off the laptop. Power on and press F12 repeatedly → select Diagnostics. Let the full scan complete and note any error codes. Result Next Action No errors Continue to Step 4. Error code returned Search the code or contact Dell with the code. On newer systems, diagnostics may launch automatically after 2–3 consecutive failed boots. Step 4: Update BIOS Firmware On a working computer, go to Dell Drivers & Downloads. Enter your Service Tag, download the latest BIOS update to a USB drive. Flash the BIOS following How to Flash the BIOS or UEFI with a USB Flash DriveDo not power off or unplug during the update. After the update completes and the laptop restarts, check whether it boots to Windows. When to Contact Dell SupportContact Dell Technical Support if: None of the steps above resolved the issue. The laptop does not respond to any keypresses at startup (F2, F12). Diagnostics returned a hardware error code. Have your Service Tag, any error codes, and a list of steps already attempted ready. April 27, 2024 -

Hi all, hoping someone can help as Google/YouTube haven't been able to yet. I have a Dell computer running Windows 10. The other night it got stuck in a Restarting loop when I accidentally hit Restart rather than Shut Off. After waiting about 10 mins I just powered off by holding down the power button.

Today I go to start it up and it freezes at the Dell screen (I get a few cycles of loading dots and then it locks up). I've tried holding F12 to run Diagnostics and it throws no error codes. I tried to enter Safe Mode by powering on/off three times and it won't go into safe mode. I've tried running Windows Recovery from the F12 boot menu and it won't do it (I just get black screen).

This is a fairly new computer (I bought 6 months ago) and I've never had any issues with it until now. I've not downloaded anything new recently/added any new hardware. Any help would be appreciated!

November 3, 2022 - You can best try to boot into diagnostics. This will work even with a broken drive. Use F12 as soon as you see the Dell logo from there you can run diagnostics. If the machine is stuck at this window it might be a bad bios update which you can then roll back using this article.
