I have tried rtc, power boot. Nothing worked.

I'll cut to the point. I was using my laptop a few weeks ago when suddenly it turned off and wont turn back on. This is a Dell Latitude 5420 that I can't seem to diagnose myself the exact issue nor fix it so I've come here for help.

My only clue is that whenever the power button is held while a charger is plugged in, an amber light appears. This amber light does not appear if the charger is plugged in, whether or not there is a battery installed in the laptop. I will describe every action I've tried to fix and fail to get my laptop to turn on.

Previous Attempts

• Plugging in laptop and pressing power button

• Pressing power button with no charger

• Removing Battery and draining flea power, then trying the previous two attempts.

• Removing battery and trying to power laptop with only charger

• Removing and reinstalling RAM

• Leaving laptop unplugged for days then attempting to power on.

• Holding power button for extended periods of time

• Removal, and reinstallation of CMOS Battery

• Examination of Thermal paste on CPU (According to my friend, it is still in good enough condition)

BIST Tests result in nothing.

Everything seems to result in this Amber Light.

I am open to many ideas and will include a video of this Amber light so you have a visual of what I'm talking about.

Please do your best to help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I chenged the thermal paste on my notebook( is a vostro 14 3468 from dell) and when I tried to turn it on appears the battery led started to blink 4 amber and 1 white and not charging. I checked everything and didn't found nothing broken I also didn't find anything about it on the internet or Dell website

I am new to laptop fixing and recently got a pretty rugged Dell Latitude 14 5420 (256GB, 16GB) for 30 bucks. It was so cheap because the display didn't work. Since then, I have updated the HDD to 1TB and RAM to 32 GB. That seems to have worked well.

I am using it with disconnected bezel cable, otherwise, it didn't let me see BIOS to install ubuntu and then I kept it like this because resolutions are better (camera doesn't work, I use driodcam + phone for that).

However, I need advice regarding the following:

1. What component is broken when screen doesn't function?

Here is how it looks like in video / picture. Is this a screen issue or a connection issue. Note that it looks broken physically but there aren't physical cracks, this is just visual. If screen replacement doesn't work, I am okay with that (since I bought it to use it more or less like a PC)

2. This is slightly bigger issue. When I disconnect the device from AC power (USB C that does both power and display). The machine turns off. All the BIOS / OS level diagnostics show that battery is healthy and charging (I have also seen it discharge).

I am getting the following error code too. I can’t find anything about this error code, it’s not on Dell’s site for it. I only saw one other Reddit post about this code for a different model and the user said they swapped the LCD and cable but as far as I can tell, mine seems to be running fine, maybe a little slow? It doesn’t happen after every startup but this is the 2nd time I’ve noticed it.

i was playing a game while plugged in and i noticed the battery blinking 4 amber 1 white and the device is not charging. i almost got heartbreak as all my studying is on it

i opened dell power manager and it says health is excellent so i restarted the device and everything worked well and it was charging fine

then today, the same thing happened again and its not charging

any help is appreciated

EDIT: and it initially started the same day i updated my windows

and only happens after playing resident evil 2 for 30 mins ( before the update i could play it for the entire day)

I was using my laptop yesterday and works fine but when I open it today it does the turn on or charge. When I click the power button it shows orange light. How do I fix this I badly needed it for my work.

As the title states, I have an Inspiron 14 5410 that is not booting and when the power button is pressed, the led lights amber (only when the ac power block is plugged in). The led does not light (any color) when the power button is not pushed.

have tried removing battery - does not change anything. power light turns amber when power button is pressed. no other indicators or codes shown. light is off when power button is not pressed.

removed cmos, removed battery, removed ac power block, in all different configurations, held power button for 30+ secs, etc... nothing changes, no boot, no led indicators other than it turns amber when the power button is pressed (if the ac power block is plugged into the laptop)

anything else i should try before spending $200 on a new board?

I purchased an XPS laptop at the end of 2017. Just the other day, it wouldn't turn on, and the LED indicator was blinking 2 amber, 1 white, which apparently indicates a CPU failure. This is pretty frustrating because it hasn't been 3 years yet, and it's been used only very very lightly. I've tried performing a system reset and power cycling, but no luck.

Although it's out of warranty, I noticed that I could renew it for about $100, and thought that perhaps it would cover the diagnosis and repair costs (wishful thinking, I know). In the link above, someone noted that the repair (replacing the motherboard) would cost $300+, which is more than I'd like to spend. But $100 including a year of warranty? That would be reasonable.

Just to make sure though, I jumped on the Dell support chat, where the representative kept telling me that I would need to have it diagnosed first for $59, get the laptop repaired, and then I could renew the warranty. This didn't make sense to me, since I could literally press "checkout" on the warranty renewal right now. He asked me how much I thought the repair would cost, and I said "at least $300 to $400," to which he replied "it would cost $278 plus tax" (how did he know it would cost that much?). So anyways I told him that that was more than I would like to spend, and he said "I understand. Thank you for choosing Dell."

I'm not sure what I want to do right now but it's just annoying to have a high-end (ish) device die like this after not even 3 years of light use. I really like the XPS, but man, I'm not happy with Dell at the moment. If anyone has any advice (is it hard/expensive to replace the motherboard?) or anything to share, that would be great.

I've looked through the manual and the codes only go up to three flashes of green.

I've got 5 green and 3 orange and can't find out what this means anywhere.
