I bought a latitude 7320 detachable earlier this year. I settled on it over a Surface because it seemed more robust, had 3 year warranty, and seemed better suited for work. I bought it as a personal device, with the intention of doing moderate work tasks (excel, word, pdf editor).
I received my laptop/tablet super quickly. I think i had it within 2 days of ordering it. I got the detachable keyboard and pen too. It was, at first, brilliant. I had considered the new XPS 13 2 in 1, but did there was no kickback stand, and the 1 year warranty was laughable (mind you, same thing with the Surface). Everything was great at first, I liked the keyboard, the pen was responsive, all my software loaded up quickly (and the start up time was crazy fast). I was really happy. What was to come...
I was working on some work files, saved on a usb stick (the tablet thingo comes with 2 usbc ports, so you'll need an adapter for anything you want to plug in. I had a little adapter, and connect the usb to it. No issue so far. All of the sudden, it shut down. When I say shut down, I don't mean the screen you see when you're shutting down your device. I don't mean the screen you get when a device has ran out power. No. I mean pull battery out sort of shut down. Drop dead.
Although I had the charger connected, I innocently thought the battery had died. I tried to turn it back on. DEAD.TO.THE.WORLD, people. Not even the light indicator was on. I was so confused. I tried to turn back on. Nothing. Dang. Try again. Nothing. Try once again, maybe hold down the button a tic longer. Nothing. What the actual hell!?
I tried, for the next 15 minutes, to revive the thing. At some point, I pressed the on button again, and it worked. phew!.
No, people, no phew. It has been happening every single day, multiple times a day. I have used different USB sticks. Same thing happens. I have been in contact with Dell 'support' since the second time it happened. It has been an infuriating experience, echoing the experience many have said they've had. In theory you're speaking to a person (my foot!). They don't read what you say, ask you to try the same fix over and over again, and that's when they are not telling you things completely not applicable to your device (no, I can't remove the battery, and they should know that!). They send you links with obsolete steps. They are exhausting.
I hate that this is what the go has been. I am currently awaing the technician to come out to replace something, but of course there is a 2 week delay on the parts they want to replace.I hate I can't enjoy the potential this thing has. It could be great, but instead, it has been a part time job to try to get this resolved.
I'll update this post if (when) we get anywhere. I hope I come back to tell you all is well, and I'm happy with my purchase.
