I've found a Dell Optiplex 7010 for 150€ / 170$ used, and I was wondering if it's still worth getting it.
Here are it's current specs:
Intel Core i7 3770 3.4Ghz turbo 3.9Ghz 4 cores 8 threads
Intel HD
8GB DDR3
HDD 10GB
DVDRW
Dell case
Dell PSU
I'm an 18 yo high school student from Serbia and I'm currently unemployed because I still have to go to school and in my country basically every 18 yo is not employed people start getting jobs after they finish higher schools in their 20s, and that's why I don't really have a big budget all I have is about 150€ /170$ that I saved up.
I would use this computer for media consumption, YouTube, Movies, communication over discord/zoom, web browsing and doing web design basically Html/css/js and some frameworks, Minecraft, I plan on using Arch Linux with KDE as it is the operating system I'm most comfortable with.
I want to know your thoughts on this and what is the upgradability of this computer?
I would obviously use my 120 gb SSD I already have and maybe purchase a new 500 gb SSD since this computer doesn't come with a lot of space, OS would be installed on the SSD while HDD would be used for storing files.
This is a warning to anyone considering purchasing the Dell OptiPlex Micro 7010: Don't do it!
We purchased two Dell OptiPlex Micro 7010 PCs for our business/retail store in January. Since receiving them, both have been experiencing recurring blue screens, and on occasion neither system would boot at all without being unplugged and plugged back in/power cycled. Dell has had us jump through hoops for months, trouble shooting various things, and nothing has helped. I suspect the issue is an underlying heat management or hardware problem. Now, Dell is telling us we can't return the PCs because we're past the 30 day return period, but we're only past the 30 day return period because they wouldn't initially let us return the PCs without running months of trouble shooting on them.
At this point, I'm planning to issue a charge back with my credit card company and am looking at purchasing small form factor PCs from another company. Does anyone have experience with Lenovo's ThinkCentre small form factors PCs?
