I'd probably start by upgrading RAM only. If you notice CPU becoming a bottleneck, you can upgrade later. You might even run into cooling issues with the i7 you mentioned in a micro chassis. Quicksync is excellent for transcoding in Plex and you have that in your 7500T. Nothing else in your use-case suggests the need for a CPU upgrade. To take advantage quicksync in Plex, you'll need to have Plex pass ($) and enable hardware acceleration. More on reddit.com

I have 4x optiplex 3080 sff’s each with i5 10th gen + 2TB nvme + 64gb ram + dual-port connect x4 25gb qsfp: Host 1 with 10 vms: idle: 20-40 watts lightly busy: 60 watts high cpu usage on the host: 140 watts prime95 abuse on the host: 160watts 😈 Plex vm (4vCPU, 4GB Ram) 1x streaming a 4K 145mbps movie (no transcoding): ~20 watts Plex vm (4vCPU, 4GB Ram) 1x streaming a 4K 145mbps movie (transcoded to 4K @40Mbps): 70 watts Hosts 2-4 with 2 vms: idle: <20 watts The 22Gbps memory to memory transfers (iperf3) and NVMe to NVMe transfers of about 13-15Gbps when I need them are sweet too 😉😏 Needless to say I am very happy that I went the SFF route. 🤗 More on reddit.com

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about buying a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7050 Micro with an Intel i5 6th Gen, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD for $150.
I plan to use it mainly for YouTube, web browsing, and light everyday tasks. My main concern is whether I might run into any issues in the future, like Windows 11 compatibility or similar limitations.
