Thanks, LSUFAN51. I was able to download the Dell OS Recovery tool on another computer (an HP laptop; also running Windows 10) and use the tool to create the USB media. Using the USB media, I was able to reinstall the OS on the Dell Inspiron laptop. At this point, I've done what I wanted to do. Again, thanks for your suggestions.

I just got an Inspiron 14 7472 and encountered the '1 sec left' problem when burning the USB stick. At first, I thought the USB burn was hanging, but I then figured out that the display shows incorrect information (progress bar, and 1 sec left). Using Alt-Ctrl-Del for starting the Task Manager and looking (via 'More Details') at resource consumption, it showed that the Dell OS Recovery Tool had low CPU load but consistently used disk bandwidth of about 20MB/sec. I have a hunch that the software, while showing 1 sec left', is actually verifying the burn without giving the user any information about it in the display. So, I let the app run, and it finished successfully after about 20 minutes of waiting (ballpark calculation: 16GB * 20MB/sec = 16 * 1.2GB/min = 19.2 minutes). FWIW, I tried this as both Admin and as regular user -- with no difference at all.

You are best to use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft which downloads the setup files, checks them and then creates the .iso overcoming the issues with direct download links and unstable connections.

I keep seeing posts in various places from as early as January of this year up to this month where the Dell OS Recovery Tool simply doesn't work, and gives a "Unable to connect to back end" error when attempting to download and make a recovery USB.
Is there a workaround out there at all? Alternatively, Does anyone happen to have an Alienware I7 R5 Windows 10 Pro USB recovery image I could use?
Even if someone could give me a directory listing of the 2 partitions on the GPT USB that gets made (partition AWRESTOR, and MEDIA) I could probably get it working with some reverse engineering.

I've yet to find someone to give me at least two good reasons why anyone would want to choose the Dell recovery image with all of it's bloatware over a clean install of windows. For me the latter is well worth the additional 15 minutes of downloading and installing some drivers.

Out of curiosity why have you done mulriple Support Assist OS Recoveries? Seems like excessive compulsive behaviour unless your computer is actually not operating properly. I actually had a similar issue with support assist critical error. Via chat on Dell Support I was sent a patch or a fix to install which solved the problem.
