December 25, 2015Dell Precision 5530 w/ Nvidia Quadro P1000: Are the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports wired to the Nvidia GPU or the Intel GPU?
AFAIK the 5530 get display output from the Intel GPU, and the NVidia acts only as a co-processor, which is the "Optimus" way used in most laptops these days, for power saving sake. Only some high end workstations (incl Precision 7 series) and nsync gaming laptops can have video output from the NVidia GPU.

I am a Ceng student at university and planing to buy a laptop to use at my 3-4 year university career and maybe at future freelance jobs. I am looking for second hand laptops and found this laptop. It has i9-8950hk processor do you think it is enough for ceng student in 2024?

Not entirely sure what “Ceng” is but Precision laptops are excellent for engineering students. I personally am studying civil engineering and I have a 5540, so just a slightly newer model than this one. Mine also only has an i7, but i’ve never felt like it was slow/ caused any bottleneck, so the i9 should work wonderfully. What GPU does it have? Oh, RAM and storage are replaceable/upgradeable in these laptops which is a huge plus.
