I just got my hands on a Dell Precision 7920 work station that I am going to be using as a sleeper gaming station under my desk in the office at work.
I already have a 1080ti to threw into it and it's absolutely loaded with RAM and a 4 SSD raid set to RAID 0, but it's only got a Xeon Silver 4114 in it. I'd like to see about upgrading the CPU for under $300 with something used on Ebay, but the amount of options for the FCLGA3647 Socket are a bit overwhelming.
Can someone with more experience with Intel Xeon processors/workstaiitons help make a recommendation for a CPU that would be better for gaming than the 4114?
Any other recommendations to increase performance on a machine like this?

Here is Dell’s supported CPU list, probably requiring to be on the latest BIOS update. Xeon Gold 6128 would be a decent cheaper option. You'll want something with a higher base clock rather than core count. Remember that most chips for this system are going to be Skylake-based, so don't expect incredible performance.

You'll have to do your own shopping around on that one. You didn't say if you were buying new/refurb/used. Ebay is a great place to find good deals and see what the price range is on many products whether you're buying new/refurb/used. If buying new, compare prices on Amazon with those on eBay. Depending on what country you're in, you might have your own versions of those websites or other sites you can check out. Newegg is another one.
