TLDR: it shouldn't matter; the most up-to-date driver should end up on your machine. TLDR: I would not remove SupportAssist. It performs more than just driver updates and might be useful to you in the future. If you remove it, you would have to re-install it later to get back its functionality (and you would have to know that you needed to re-install it). It's not supposed to matter which source is used for driver updates because Windows is supposed to refuse to update a driver if the driver it's trying to install is older than the current driver. In that sense, there is no conflict: attempts to install an older driver will be ignored. Now whether that is the reality on your machine, I can't tell. You would need to check the actual driver versions to see whether you have a "competing driver installation" situation. The usual way to find the driver version is to use the Device Manager program. To open it, press the Windows key. In the "type here to search" text box that appears, enter "device manager" and the Device Manager program should appear and be highlighted. Press the enter key to open it. You would then navigate to the device you want to inspect and right-click on it and select the Properties menu item. In the window that opens, click the Driver tab and it will display the driver's name and version. HTH. More on reddit.com

what do you need support assist for and how can you reasonably expect support for a EOL OS? if the hardware isn't up for the current windows OS then either upgrade it, retire it, or put linux on it. it's not wise to use outdated operating systems.
