Hello, I have two latitude 3520 with the same problem , No reaction with Button Power (10s, 30s, and 60s) without adaptor, i contact the support They purpose me to put CTRL+ECHAP and connect Ac adaptor, same problem I resolve the problem with : - disassembly the bottom case - disconnect battery - connect battery - reboot latitude 3520 - message 'dell bios firmware failed the bios was corrupted, restore with backup bios' - system boot ok - i check Dell command update tools (no further update). Please try performing a Hard Reset: 1. Disconnect any external devices including the AC adapter (and battery if possible) 2. Hold the power button down for 20~30 seconds 3. Bypass any power strips, surge protectors or battery backups 4. Verify the wall outlet is functional 5. Plug only the AC adapter/battery back into the laptop 6. Attempt to power on the system and finish the update. If that does not solved the issue, proceed to the next step. 1. Remove the AC adaptor and wait for the battery to drain completely (it can take minutes or hours depending on the battery level). 2. After the battery drained completely, connect the AC adapter back and press the Power button for 25 to 40 seconds until the battery charging LED blinks twice and then the release power button. 3. Once that is done, check if the update was complete and you have the new BIOS installed.

I had this same problem (frozen BIOS v1.15.0 update) today with an OptiPlex 5000 SFF. It was frozen in this state overnight. I left the power connected, but pulled all the other connections off the back of the machine. In my case this was 1 x Ethernet plus 2 x USBs plus 1 x DisplayPort cable. Then I plugged the single DisplayPort cable back in to see if anything was happening. The BIOS update began to run and eventually finished and booted to the Windows 11 desktop. Then I plugged the 3 remaining unplugged cables back in. It seems to be operating OK with the BIOS v1.15.0 update now thankfully completed. Weird! Neil Howard

are you able to power down and observer the same stuck issue when power up again? this looks worrisome. I would power down, disconnect power cord, press power button to drain power, replace cmos battery and clear cmos settings if possible. you see this screen would occur if you had run a bios update before. It then restarts and try to flash but fails. a failed flash can brick motherboard. I would try to abort the flash process. do not let it start on its own. for whatever reason this pc is not good for bios flash.

This is the third time this happens to me with a brand new, expensive Dell laptop. It seriously affects my workday. At some point during the night, the laptop decides to update its firmware, and gets itself stuck at zero, until the morning when I arrive at the office. Now, I have no way of starting the computer, as it wont power down. Its fans are going loud and there is no progress. Please, can anyone assist with this? What do I do?

Unplug all of your USBs if any plugged in. There's a issue with certain usb devices halting bios upgrades.

Hold the power button down for 10-30 seconds, until it powers down. it should be fine as it hasn't started the update process yet. In the worst case, Dells have a good BIOS recovery function.

Unplug the power and let the battery drain to force shutdown - it takes around 2 hours for a fully charged battery to drop below 50% for it to shut down. Once shut down, plug the power back in and let it charge for about 10-20mins for the battery to reach over 50% then boot the machine back up. It will then initiate the BIOS recovery. If you can't wait for 2 hours, you'll have to unscrew the back plate to disconnect the battery.

Hey guys, I recently bought a local Dell PC for casual web browsing and a bit of office work — nothing heavy. But since the day I bought it, every time I try to update Windows or restart after an update, it always shows:
“Updating your firmware” Dell logo → Flash progress: 0%
And it just stays stuck there for hours. Even if I leave it overnight, it doesn’t move. The only way to get it back is by turning off the plug and restarting manually. Sometimes it works, sometimes the same screen appears again.

I'm assuming it is pulling the firmware (BIOS) update from Windows update. Just enter the service tag into dell's website and download and manually install the BIOS update.

In case you're reaching out because of this problem on your laptop, please try performing a Hard Reset: 1. Disconnect any external devices including the AC adapter (and battery if possible) 2. That can't be good. Pray? Hope you didn't brick-it/kill-it. You don't say what Optiplex model. Most new ones have BIOS-Guard-Recovery, but it's not always 100% successful/possible.

I was having this exact problem and have not been able to figure out what it was. Until today. I ready another post somewhere that said to unplug all non essential periferals. I had a WiFi dongle and blue tooth dongle as our Desktop did not come with this installed(?). As soon as I unpluged these the Flash progress started to move. Hope this can help other.

This shouldn't do anything to the data you have stored. The computer itself might be bricked after this but if the storage device inside the computer is removable, you can always transplant it to another laptop to continue on. Also, try removing whatever is plugged into the USB port. There should never be anything but power plugged in when doing a firmware update.

It can take quite some time before the update is successful. This forum thread has more information from the mod as to what steps to take.
