Ok, so I purchased this configuration during Cyber Week with the sole intent of using the empty SO-DIMM slot to bump the total RAM up to 32GB, which according to the Setup and specifications guide is supported. When looking at the Memory Upgrades there are two 16GB chips listed as compatible with my laptop, one is 1Rx8 and the other is 2Rx8.
Problem Statement: I (naively) purchased both the laptop and the 2Rx8 chip on the same date but (probably stupidly) in separate orders. I already have the chip in-hand, while the laptop has an expected delivery date of 1/8/21. The hardware has a 21-day return policy, which will no overlap to verify whether or not the chip matches, and that's if there isn't even a delay on the laptop shipment.
My Ask: Can anyone help me decide what to do? I'm torn between trying to deal with CS (nightmare), return the chip and re-purchase once I have laptop in-hand, or just hold onto the chip and, if it doesn't match the chip that comes with the laptop, try to get my Business Sales rep to hopefully make magic happen and swap it out for me with minimal headache (he sold me the chip but originally stated other options before confirming this chip matched my system, so I'm 50-50 on his reliability).
Thoughts?
