I've run the diagbostics which gave the following Error code: 2000-0132 Validation: 73590 This indicates a battery malfunction. I contacted Dell and they said my pro-support warranty won't cover it as batteries are supposed to have a life time. I agree batteries are expected to slowly get bad with time, but this is not what happened here. It went from fully functional to not holding any charge from one day to another. I think the fact that many people are having the same problem more or less simultaneously indicates this is possibly a design flaw. Answer from V60AP on dell.com

That sounds like a bad battery indication and more so since the system shuts down when the adapter is unplugged. In that case the cure is to replace the battery with a new genuine Dell battery. You can run diagnostics and the battery should indicate as bad. At the Dell splash screen start tapping F12 and run full diagnostics. Watch for battery errors.

A few days ago I updated the BIOS on my 9560, shortly after the update i had the same symptoms and my battery was reported to need to be replaced, I had no problem before at all. Despite taking apart the computer and resetting the CMOS and discharging the flea power. I still have this issue.

Remove the base cover and disconnect the battery - if the system runs fine with no issues, yes - it's just the battery that needs to be replaced. Not all batteries swell when dead, nor are all swollen batteries dead. However, completely dead batteries do commonly start to swell, so if the battery is dead - dispose of it and replace it as soon as possible.

I don't believe it's a BIOS problem. I decided to send it back for diagnostic and pay the 59$ in order to get their inputs on this problem since I paid over 2K$ 3 years ago and I am a bit pissed about this as well. Sending the unit back today and will update this post once I get their diagnostic. I expect they will propose to replace the motherboard, and/or the display board.

Hi all, According to the Reference Guide to the XPS Laptop Diagnostic Indicators, 3 amber and 5 white indicates a SBIOS Flash Corruption. For this, a hard reset might help you fix this problem: Follow these steps to perform a hard reset: Turn off the laptop. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery or simply remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect all devices such as USB drives, printers, webcams, and media cards (SD/xD). Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power. Connect the AC adapter and battery. Turn on the computer. I've had my XPS 15 (2-in-1) for about 2 years now and it's been a great laptop so far. Recently, my laptop indicator light (front of the laptop, right below touchpad) has been blinking in a specific pattern (4 short amber, 1 long white). While it is blinking, the laptop will immediately shut off if not plugged in. In addition, my battery life has degraded somewhat significantly (from 75 to 38 mWh). These two combine to make it quite difficult to use my computer as a laptop since I am constantly looking for outlets in case this issue arises. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you found a solution? I'm going to try taking it to my local computer repair shop but in the mean time I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

4 amber 1 white means a bad battery 90% of the time. The pattern code indicates that the main battery cannot power the system. Seeing that the battery degraded substantially as well, you're likely looking at needing a new battery. If it's under warranty hit dell up and if not i'd buy a new genuine one from ebay (dell part number is TMFYT)

That light sequence indicates a bad battery. When you installed another battery, was it a genuine Dell battery as non Dell batteries can cause that problem. Also try a reset. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The battery is supposed to be genuine and looks exactly the same as the original one. It is properly recognized by Dell Command Power Manager, which does not indicate any issue with the battery. In the detailed infos, it says the battery is a Dell battery manufactured by LG. But the serial number looks a bit strange (only 4 hex digits). I tried your reset procedure, it did not change anything :-(

January 28, 2022 - After another crash my laptop was flashing 3 amber 5 white lights. I tried to turn it on while it was still plugged to an AC adapter. Before it usually did nothing — my laptop used to refuse to boot while it was plugged it after a crash. Yet this time it did boot and I saw a BIOS recovery prompt. I went with the first option ("Repairing BIOS", I guess), it performed the recovery, rebooted and voila — my XPS runs off an AC adapter again!

I've had the laptop about 3 years now. I had the motherboard replaced about a year ago. It's been working fine, but today the light started flashing yellow 4 times then white 6 times. Does this mean the battery is shot, or something is wrong with the BIOS?
All the code guides I've seen online only talk about 3 amber flashes, not 4. Have I discovered a new Dell laptop error code? Lol

Unplug system, remove base cover and disconnect the battery. Hold the power button for 30 sec. Remove and reinstall both memory modules. Reconnect the battery and power up again - if the error persists, the CPU is indeed bad. It's not replaceable -- you'll need to replace the entire system board (the CPU is soldered to the mainboard).
