On this model, the memory is not replaceable - you must replace the system board. Hopefully, the system is under warranty - if it is, contact Dell. Hi Tempwfox519, Good work on troubleshooting. We will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly. Start the computer by pressing the power button Press the F2 key 2-3 times You will now be on the BIOS screen Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

Hello…thanks for the quick response. I tried what you said. The BIOS states 150W under AC Adapter Type. I also unplugged it to see if the BIOS detected a change, and it did…it stated NONE. So it seems to be detecting ok, right? Something I might not have said in original post is that the light continues to blink whether running on AC power or Battery power. While plugged in, the battery meter always states 'a percentage' 'plugged in' 'not charging'… but battery seems to be charging. Current state is [96% available (plugged-in, not charging). I would think the battery should be a lot less than this by now if not charging. Strange. I just unplugged the battery with the system running to test the battery meter on the battery…shows all led lights lit. However, when I just plugged the battery back in, a Windows message appeared stating 'The model number for the primary battery is non-recommended. The battery cannot provide sufficient power to run the system on battery mode. Please insert a Dell battery for best system operation.' I would had never seen this unless I would have unplugged and replugged the battery with windows running. The original battery and the battery I just purchased are both from Dell. They are 'Dell Battery Module, Type R795X Rating: 11.1V Capacity 90Wh. Hope this helps. Sounds like a system/bios update issue of not detecting the battery properly, right? Thanks again.

I've had my XPS 15 (2-in-1) for about 2 years now and it's been a great laptop so far. Recently, my laptop indicator light (front of the laptop, right below touchpad) has been blinking in a specific pattern (4 short amber, 1 long white). While it is blinking, the laptop will immediately shut off if not plugged in. In addition, my battery life has degraded somewhat significantly (from 75 to 38 mWh). These two combine to make it quite difficult to use my computer as a laptop since I am constantly looking for outlets in case this issue arises. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you found a solution? I'm going to try taking it to my local computer repair shop but in the mean time I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

That light sequence indicates a bad battery. When you installed another battery, was it a genuine Dell battery as non Dell batteries can cause that problem. Also try a reset. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The battery is supposed to be genuine and looks exactly the same as the original one. It is properly recognized by Dell Command Power Manager, which does not indicate any issue with the battery. In the detailed infos, it says the battery is a Dell battery manufactured by LG. But the serial number looks a bit strange (only 4 hex digits). I tried your reset procedure, it did not change anything :-(

Hi, pattern 2 amber, 4 white is for Memory or RAM failure. First thing i would try is reseating RAM. Second thing i would do is flea power release: Flea power is the residual static electricity that remains on the computer even after it has been powered off and the battery has been removed. The following procedure provides the instructions on how to conduct flea power release: Turn off your computer. Remove the base cover. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain the flea power. Replace the base cover. Turn on your computer. Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts. Suggest you reset BIOS: Power off, unplug Press/hold power button for ~15 sec Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details) Press/hold power button for ~30 sec Reinstall all RAM the way it was originally Reinstall the battery (Time for fresh CR2032 3-volt coin cell battery? ~$2) Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard Reboot If that doesn't help, repeat #1 - #4 and then leave only the module in DIMM1. (Note: DIMM1 may not be the first slot from the CPU.) Then do #6 - #8. Keep repeating this until each module is tested in DIMM1. If they all work in DIMM1, add the matching module to DIMM2) (Note: DIMM2 is probably not next to DIMM1.) Assuming that also works,keep adding RAM back until you find the bum module or the bum motherboard slot.

If take a guess you have an inspiron desktop pc with only two DIMM. one model comes to mind: inspiron 3650. LED blinking is nonspecific and you can not have unwavering faith in it. try clear cmos settings.

I've had the laptop about 3 years now. I had the motherboard replaced about a year ago. It's been working fine, but today the light started flashing yellow 4 times then white 6 times. Does this mean the battery is shot, or something is wrong with the BIOS?
All the code guides I've seen online only talk about 3 amber flashes, not 4. Have I discovered a new Dell laptop error code? Lol
