In desperate need of plumbing advice. Shut our water off to install a new bathtub faucet and cannot get the new one to fit. Replacing an older (1997ish installation) of a Delta Linden faucet with another Delta faucet. Bought a different faucet and cartridge/diverter. Everything seems the same size and seems to fit properly until trying to actually place it into the pipe in the wall. Any help is much appreciated since we now have to choice between paying for a plumber and not having water until we figure this out.

I have a new construction house that came with a nice Delta Faucet Venetian Bronze three hole faucet set for the Roman tub. My wife wants a handheld shower head added. I see that Delta sells these in a set. Is it possible to just add the hand held and tap into the lines going to the main faucet? Or does the entire three hole set need to be taken out and replaced with the four hole valve and faucet/handles sets?
I’ve done minor plumbing before but have not worked with pex. Is this a reasonable “take my time and learn” DIY task? Or is this a hire a plumber task?
Thx for your guidance.
