if it is fixable, you will have to remove the handle by removing the set screw. I would highly recommend spraying it with WD-40 or something similar. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Spray again. Let sit. Attempt to remove set screw. If the set screw comes loose, you can attempt to remove the handle. Pull up. If it does not come off, spray with WD-40 and wait. Try to remove handle. If handle removes, you can proceed with removing the packing nut. If you force the packing nut loose, but the valve body spins, you will have to cut an access and inspect from below. If you are able to remove the packing nut without the valve body spinning, You are successful. Remove the packing nut. Remove the cartridge and seats and springs (if it has them) and replace them with new. reassemble. Turn water back on. Test and inspect. More on reddit.com

I shouldn't have described it as a plug because it is definitely not one. it is round and actually recessed inside the handle. If you push on it, it feels spring loaded. I'm guessing the spring pushes some type of locking mechanism onto the stem. More on reddit.com

There should be a set screw on bottom of handle to hold it onto stem. Or a screw that goes through handle into stem. More on reddit.com

March 15, 2019I can not get my Delta shower handle off
Penetrating oil, lots of it, put the hex wrench in the hex screw and tap with some pliers or a hammer to knock it loose. Use pliers perpendicular to hex wrench L and twist that mother fucker out till it squeaks and breaks free. May have to let it sit overnight with a rubber glove full of penetrating fluid taped around. I have a Delta tub faucet that has started to leak just under the handle. I don't have any access to it other than what you see. Can I assume this is just a bad cartridge? There's a screw in the front of the handle which I assume let's me take the handle off. Any idea how I go about fixing this?
