Schematic Map I Made of RTD/Rail Transit in the Denver Metro
Hi r/Denver , I wanted to share a little project that I've been working on, a sort of alternate version of the RTD schematic map. I hope it is ok that I am posting this here even though I'm not a local to the area, though I have very much enjoyed your city when I have visited! (mods, let me know if this needs to be removed or edited in some way). This map is actually part of a larger series I've been working on, showing all passenger rail systems in various US metros in sort of single, comprehensive maps. Admittedly the Denver system is a little more sparse than say Boston or DC - with those maps I endeavored to show all subway/commuter rail/light rail systems on one map, with things like tunnels, bikesharing, accessibility, etc. Denver's system seems to be a bit more self-contained, but it was still fun to put this together. Since I am not a local and have only visited, I'd love to get your feedback on both style/aesthetic as well as corrections to the actual map content. If you see any errors, let me know! I'll also note that while I realize there are a few potential extensions planned (such as running a line out to Boulder), since as far as I can tell they aren't actively under construction I did not include them here. Thanks! More on reddit.com
I created a better fantasy map for what RTD could look like in the future! (ft. SW Denver)
If this were the map, I would never drive to work. More on reddit.com
Future (2050-ish) Denver-Area Rail and BRT Map with Some Low-Key Colorado High-Speed Rail Thrown In, See Comment for Extra Details
This transit diagram is based on the existing RTD map with several routes added, including some planned routes (B Line extension to Longmont, N Line extension further north, etc.) and plenty of services that aren't on the radar, per se. Some notes and comments: The downtown loops are an idea from The House of Transit on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6joXq01myU&lc= ); I was originally just going to use RTD's existing structure in the downtown area but The House of Transit's idea is just so good: tunnels going in a loop with services from north and south both hitting most or all of the stations. My version's a bit different but that's where it comes from. Fonts: I used Calibri for most of the map but Arial for the title because, as I discovered, when you make Calibri text large, the curves at the letter corners become quite obvious and I didn't like it The idea with the Front Range Acela is that Amtrak operates a high-speed rail line from Cheyenne to La Junta (although the branch that goes to Loveland, Longmont, and Boulder might have to go slower); in this future, Amtrak got the funds and political will to actually upgrade the Northeast Corridor (Boston to Washington, DC) into true high-speed rail and began using the "Acela" name as a high-speed brand nationwide, which includes Front Range Acela in Colorado, Cascades Acela in the Northwest, and more. I also liked the idea of connecting airports via high-speed rail, hence the branch to DIA and the stations at regional airports. I was going to add streetcars on Broadway and Pearl Street in Boulder but the former was going to really highlight the geographic distortions and I didn't want to list stops for both of them so...I'm just pretending they haven't been built yet at the time of this map. The northeastern section of the C Line is kind of goofy but once I realized my original plans were nearly a circle line, I decided that I just had to finish it. A big unstated part of this is that RTD services on these lines would be substantially more frequent than they are now, with most lines having no more than 10 minute headways between trains (and typically 5-7 minutes). r/Denver on Reddit: I made an RTD system map!

Hi Denver! I'm an amateur transit map designer who's been meaning to try their hand at making a bus system map. When I realised that RTD doesn't have a proper system map, it occurred to me that Denver might be a good canvas to start with. Very curious to hear your thoughts :)

2 days ago - The 8.7-mile (14.0 km) Southwest Corridor light rail extension to Mineral Avenue in Littleton opened in July 2000, followed by the 1.8-mile (2.9 km) Central Platte Valley spur to Denver Union Station in April 2002. In 2003, the downtown portion of the original line between Speer Boulevard and 14th Street was realigned as a result of construction of the Colorado Convention Center.
