Occupational Privilege Tax in Denver?

Its so the city can keep your privilege in check, Mr./Mrs. Employed. /s

https://www.greenwoodvillage.com/1220/Occupational-Privilege-Tax-OPT

Greenwood Village has this little blurb about it:

"The Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT) was instituted in Greenwood Village on January 1, 1980. The revenue from this tax is used exclusively for capital projects such as street improvements."

Wikipedia has this to say:

"The genesis of this tax is the state's claim in recovering accrued benefits provided to the taxpayer in enabling them to become employed and allowing for the state or municipality to further provide for taxpayers in the future."

Not sure if I agree with that idea. I've played City Skylines and upgrading infrastructure can lead to higher property and sales taxes which further fund infrastructure projects.
