Best app for tracking RTD bus & train times?
Unfortunately I have to use a mixture of Google maps and Transit. Transit is better for planning connections and looking up where routes go. Google Maps has the most accurate live locations but consistently insists I Uber or Lyft so connections are not easily mapped. More on reddit.com

It’s certainly not perfect but I’ve never been asked to log in to it so I like it more than most other apps. I use it to buy my tickets and that’s it. I use google maps for better info regarding transfers and ETA’s and whatnot. More on reddit.com

January 18, 2024Easiest way to use public transit in Denver
Moved here from NYC and you’re going to be floored by our public transportation and ask how we let it get this bad. That being said, if you accept that it’s a shotty system and build in extra time for the stupidity it will get ya where you need to be. My experience is that the app is the best way to pay for tickets. If you are depending solely on public transportation, then I would suggest buying a day pass for each day you’re here for all zones. There are no turnstiles or staff or anything checking tickets at stops but occasionally the RTD police will walk through checking tickets. This is a rumor, I have heard tale from many that this happens but I have never seen it myself. Do not use any app, sign, time table, schedule, or any other hints or suggestions about when to head to the station or bus stop. The RTD app lies and works off of time tables for next bus/train and google maps just lists the same. Further, if you’re at a station there will be no announcement over the speakers or on the “next arrival” sign if a line has closed or is running on a delay. Just go to the stop/station and accept that you have rolled the dice and that your fate is no longer in your hands. Edit: it is NOT a 24 hr system! If you go out at night you will probably have to Uber home. More on reddit.com

When I lived in Boulder I used Transit and it worked great... the app tracked buses' live location, told me where/when to go, and gave alerts when approaching my stop. In 3 years I never once missed a bus or a stop.
But since I moved to Denver it seems to be wildly inaccurate, giving me wrong routes and timetables and not knowing where the next bus is. I'm trying Google Maps, which seems to be more accurate with locations and departures, but its alerts are horrible... I've missed my stop 2 out of 3 rides so far.
The RTD app doesn't seem to support the live tracking feature, but I'll try their Next Ride web app for a bit. What other transit apps do you recommend? Thanks!

I use the next ride app on my phone for live tracking. The posted schedules are super unreliable except for maybe in the morning. I go to the alerts and then live tracking map for the line/bus I want and then click on the individual trains/bus on the map and look at the estimated arrival time for the station i want. And that’s how I determine when im going to leave work/home. That works pretty well but if you have a transfer then you are at the mercy of random arrivals. I never use alerts, so I have no feedback on that. I just usually know when and where I am going so there’s no need.

I live in Denver with a car so have the RTD app installed but dont use it a lot. I have visited a few cities in different states and usually rely on their public transportation to get around.
I usually download the public transportation app to make travel easier. They have real time maps and live locations that are as convent and simple as the Lyft or Uber apps. Denvers seems overly complicated and almost more of a pain to use than is worth it. You can see live locations and schedules but not a simple map and click where you want to go.
Even compared to smaller cities I have been, RTD app just seems not as good.

Try the Transit app. I find not always accurate but close a lot of times. It tells you all transit options near you.
