I just got the 8-inch, I thought it was a much better deal with the higher HP motor, it'll run cooler and it's no fun having one bog down. It runs really smooth but there's no braking so it takes forever to spin down, if that matters. I picked up a 120 grit wheel and a wire wheel as well, built a little bench out of scrap and mounted it. The wheels that came with were balanced just fine. The instructions for attaching the rests and shields are incredibly bad, but there are YouTube videos for that if you need it, I did. More on reddit.com

January 7, 2025Ok, just one more NTD: DW758 8" bench grinder. Just because it was so dang hard to find!
I was actually looking to replace my old 8" Craftsman Industrial grinder I sold a few years ago like an idiot. But I started looking at online reviews, and it seemed like the Dewalt grinders were at or near the top of every damn list! So I start looking and almost NO ONE has them in stock! Amazon ( or someone selling thru Amazon) seems to have some in stock, but at inflated prices. Why? If their grinder is so well regarded and in demand as it seems to be, Dewalt would be absolutely stupid to constrain or even de-prioritize production, right? Anyway, I started looking for used, and it was no better! And then this BNIB beauty shows up on CL/OfferUp. Great price, and he included a wire wheel, as well as some polish and a stack of polishing wheels. No brainer. I dropped what I was doing and drove an hour to get it. Good thing too--he already had several offers after me. Put it together last night and turned it on. Spun up fast, and no vibration that I can see (I read some reviews that said the wheels could wobble and vibrate). So Stoked! More on reddit.com

October 27, 2021Good budget bench grinder? Dewalt DW758?
I've always liked Delta bench grinders, even though they're not what they used to be. Even the newer Chinese made ones are pretty good value. The Delta variable speed grinder that you can find on Amazon/eBay or Lowe's is great for sharpening bits/blades/chisels. The first bench grinder I bought was a $60 cheap one from Northern Tool, and it works OK but the $100-$150 ones are definitely a lot nicer. They are better balanced, and have sturdy usable tool rests. More on reddit.com

August 9, 2018Why so much negativity online toward the 8” bench grinder? I’ve owned and regularly used both the 6” and 8” dewalt bench grinders for several months now and I honestly prefer the bigger one in most every situation. Anyone else have any experience with these things?
Bigger is usually better with bench grinders but I think now everything being newer, lighter, and cordless I think they are becoming a tool of the past More on reddit.com

My bench grinder has given up the ghost and I was looking at my Dewalt options. Basically, there's 6" and 8". I'm honestly not sure which way to go with these. It would be shop general purpose. If you plan on any material removal definitely go with the 8". More HP and faster sfm on the grinding wheel. Much faster grinding.
