Woohoo! Finally, I can see why it took so long now. They weren't just designing a right angle die grinder. They were designing and testing a new grinder platform. Surprised they went with gears instead of direct drive. I had heard there was a direct drive prototype, based on the mini cutoff tool. Going with gears allowed a full suite of tools though, so that makes sense. Curious about the two different angle grinders. I wonder if the small wheel size difference is the only thing or if there is anything else that sets them apart. Does it look like speed control is a button or wheel? I hope the die grinders are full variable speed. More on reddit.com

I don't think Dremel has anything similar. All of their tools max out at 1/8" shanks and are designed for small detail work. The Dewalt is 1/4". It's the one you want for the bulk removal of material. Outside of Milwaukee or Makita, the only other I can think of is Proxxon - https://www.proxxon.com/en/micromot/29860.php It's 12V (they still list as 10.8) though. And the battery system is just going to take you into their somewhat strange (but cool) line of tools. More on reddit.com

Follow up post to my earlier one on the new right angle die grinder. I was excited as myself and others have been talking about it for months, so I wanted to get that out there right away. Here are all 4 of the new models with their respective Max Watts Out rating, they don't list any RPM speeds at the moment:
DCG400 4" Angle Grinder - 755 MWO, 9,000 RPM not variable speed
DCG402 4.5" Angle Grinder - 760 MWO, 9,000 RPM not variable speed
DCG420 - Die Grinder - 450 MWO, 24,500 RPM with variable speed trigger and 4 speed modes
DCG422 - Right Angle Die Grinder - 455 MWO, 24,500 RPM with variable speed trigger and 4 speed modes
All of them feature their ANTI-ROTATION System electronic brake, and the die grinders have LED lights and multiple speeds through button control. I'm hoping they all have variable speed triggers (edit: the die grinders are confirmed to have variable speed triggers, unsure on the angle grinders). They also went with the "pneumatic style" paddle switch on all of them. I would have loved to see the die grinders on 12v, but as we know DeWalt is sorta sunsetting the 12v system. The mini angle grinders are something I never thought I would want, but now I kinda do.
The 1.7Ah PS battery is going to be the battery of choice for the die grinders, and that is what they are kitted with. While the grinders looks like they will get the 3.5Ah PS, which will be cherry on them. The 4Ah PP would also be solid if you don't mind the extra length/width for a bit more runtime.
Here's hoping they are available for the holidays, and maybe even some good deals.

Dewalt is killing the m12 line, the ps1.7 is so small but so much more powerful than m12. I hate that Milwaukee didn’t make small pouch-cell bettery.
