That's 60% of the value!! All information I found on Google amounts to 7$ MAX! There is no way I can arrive at this outrageous number.
How can this be? Am I being ripped or did something go wrong?
(PS: I am "allowed" to pay this online but clearly I do not see any details or breakdowns)
Hi Alphaz !
I have some questions for the USA Alphaz who’s has ordered from XG japan store before, have you guys ever got to pay the import duty fees like ever ? Cause I used to ordered with them 3 times in the past years and I’ve never received the pay request from DHL before. This is my first time receiving it so I was a little bit confused. And also the shipping fees this year is double from last year too! Last year I ordered a bunch of merchs and it’s always only $23 shipping, this year I only ordered 2 T shirts and 2 pack of socks and the shipping was $50 ?! And now I have to pay for another $342 ?! That is ridiculous! Have any one experienced this too ?! 😢😭 Thank you Alphaz ! I always love XG but this might be too much 😭
I'm in Canada, and I ordered a Bricklink order from a seller in Slovenia. Order was about $25 CAD, and another $20 or so for shipping with DHL - their only international option. They're hard to find bricks crucial to a MOC, so I'm ok with paying that.
However, I received a notice from DHL saying that I owe another $23 in customs duties ...but that turns out it's about $3 of actual tax owing, plus a $20 DHL customs processing fee.
DHL has been criticized in the media for this and there has been a class action lawsuit about hidden fees. I googled and there were also recipients in Australia and India complaining about DHL's surprise fees for similarly small import taxes.
I want to just warn any Bricklink sellers and buyer about DHL - if you're doing a transaction where the buyer will have to pay customs duties, especially if they're a small amount of money, please don't use DHL. The buyer will be hit with a huge fee.
If you're in Canada and you got hit with one of these overcharges, there are other options than paying it. Call up DHL and tell them you want to self-account for these goods. They will provide you with the documentation, and you can take it to the nearest CBSA office and pay just the tax directly. You then email DHL back and they'll then deliver your package. I'm about to test this system out, since there's a CBSA office a few blocks from me, and will confirm if it works.
