its unfortunatly legit. welcome to the world of cross border shipping.

check their webpage its all listed and annoying as hell.

you can opt to do the paper work for the customs stuff your self, but that might take a week or two to get it in order.

DHL wants CAD $21.45 customs fees for a USD $25.72 package. How can that be??
The duty is a small amount, but they add their crazy high brokerage fee. You can do your own brokerage if you want, just call them. More on reddit.com

DHL Customs Fees

This is an age old problem. Couriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) can all charge an exorbitant brokerage fee for processing your shipment through Canada Customs. To be clear, you will always have to pay taxes/duties but the exorbitant brokerage fees are what the couriers charge you for “processing” this for you and for “fronting the taxes and duties” on your behalf. You often have no way of knowing how much exactly you will have to pay until the item is cleared and ready for delivery by one of these couriers. That’s why if there is an option, I always ask the shipper to use the postal system since Canada Post charges a reasonable flat fee for this process (it was $8 a few years ago).

Here’s a website with some info that might help you understand your options: https://citroenvie.com/how-to-avoid-upsfedex-canada-brokerage-fees/

Ordered a single pair of shoes ~$330 USD. Now apparently DHL is saying I owe $189 in customs clearance fees?? Is there anything I can do to stop this???
Refuse the shipment and see if you can get a refund on said shoe. Would have been cheaper if it was mailed through Canada Post. Based on experience, their customs & brokerage fees are much lower. Regardless, if the pair of shoes wasn't made in NAFTA countries, you have to pay customs to import said shoe. More on reddit.com
