Hi guys, I know it's 2026 but I've just started playing diablo 2 LOD for the first time and I'm a level 13 necromancer. Can you guys suggest me a good build. Currently I have 8 points in raise skeleton 2 in amplify damage and 3 in teeth. I also put a lot of my points in mana with some into dexterity.
What the title of the post indicates Diablo 2 Resurrected is the first game of this saga that I try, and of all the classes the necromancer is the one that most attracts my attention, and I wanted to know what is the best way to build a powerful one, I am looking for tips on skills, stats, equipment, etc, thank you very much.
Hi all, I picked up Diablo 2 on the switch as part of the holiday sales.
I have a lot of experience playing diablo 3 but this is my first time playing through Diablo 2.
I went for a necromancer because the idea of having a ton of little minions following me around and doing my fighting for me while I sit back and sling a few spells sounded appealing.
However, I have been having a bear of a time trying to get through the game even on normal difficulty. Am I doing something wrong or is the game supposed to be this difficult.
Currently I'm level 23 at the very end of act II where you fight this big monster in Tal Rasha's Tomb. And I am just continuously getting spanked. My minions seem to just melt and my character himself does barely any damage alone.
My build is:
6 - Skeleton Master
6 - Raise Skeleton
3 - Clay Golem
1 - Golem Mastery
3 - Skeleton Mage
3 - Teeth
1 - Corpse Explosion
1 - Amplify Damage
Do I just need to change my build? Am I playing Necro wrong? Am I gearing wrong somehow and that's causing my lack of damage?
Thanks.
So I was watching MrLlama's character skill tier list videos, and while I think he did a great job with his rankings overall, his Necromancer video perfectly encapsulated the way that I think a lot of the DII community views the class.
Basically, he said:
-
Necro has a ton of S-tier skills (true)
-
Some of the A-tier skills, like Bone Armor and Amplify Damage, could arguably be S-tier as well (true)
-
Corpse Explosion is one of the most overpowered skills in the game, even post-nerf (true)
-
Bone Prison completely shuts down entire screens of monsters (true)
-
Clay Golem + Decrepify trivializes boss fights (true)
-
Summons and Revives trivialize just about everything (true)
-
A bunch of the curses are incredibly powerful, and are super valuable in groups (true)
-
Necro is a mediocre class (?????)
I'm not trying to call out Llama here, his knowledge of DII far outstrips mine. It's just that I've seen this take so many times from DII players and it BAFFLES me. I understand not liking Necro because it's very slow compared to something like Sorceress, and I suppose that's where the stigma comes from, but I just want to see more love for my favorite class!
Necros are the closest thing that DII has to an easy mode. Summoning and Bone Necros, especially, can casually steamroll most of the game even in SSF, and Poison is stupid if you have the gear for it. On top of that, every obstacle that Necros face - some Normal bosses, the Maggot Lair for Summoners, ranged monsters - has a simple solution (Iron Maiden + Clay Golem, a wand with Teleport charges, and Dim Vision or Attract, respectively). If you're a beginning player, or are tired of having to worry about, you know, ever dying, Necro is a great choice.
I guess I don't have a point here except to say that I want to see more love for the Necromancer! I want more romance for those necros 💀💀💀.
Though I played original D2 many years ago, I have gotten back into the game and am running a summoner. On normal, Diablo is destroying my army. My basic build at Level 29 is Raise Skeletons (23), Skeleton Mastery (1), Raise Skeletal Mages (3), Clay Golem (1), Blood Golem (1), Golem Mastery (1), and Summon Resist (1). I have Amplify Damage (1) and Decrepify (1).
My issue with Diablo is that he wipes out my entire army instantly. I have 9 skeletons and none can survive for long. The Golems die too. My Act 2 Merc also dies quickly. As I am pure summoner, I cannot fight Diablo myself and bringing back my army is tedious at best. I can survive around him but cannot damage him much myself.
Do I need to respec or is this build fixable? I want to stay a summoner but most online guides point to going the Bone Spear route. Other guides said Decrepify would keep my army safe. It doesn't at all. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Edit: After gaining 1 level, I decided to respec and get rid of the mages. After only partially redoing my points (none in decrepify) and moving mages to mastery, I killed him. Needed to raise my army 2 extra times but otherwise he wasn't a challenge. Thanks everyone.
Without a skill that increases attack rating dramatically, my hit percentage is ridiculously low. There's no point attacking enemies at all. I can't hit them. Am I supposed to do nothing but curse and corpse explode and wait for my minions to do everything? I'm leveling a Necro for the first time. Currently at 48. It just feels so strange and off putting to not be able to kill any monsters myself.
So I play single player and was wondering what would you reccomend for skill/ stats for a pure summoner necromancer? I would prefer not to use revive monster.
I just beat Diablo on normal and was really frustrated with how all my minions kept dieing so fast where they usually just don't die. I have not reset my skills/stats yet and was thinking I would before Baal.
I am level 33, have been playing for a long time, but never played online and only gone through Baal in normal once.
Edit:
Thanks for all the help! The reason I favor pure summoner is because I have two small humans which sometimes means I can't click or take a potion as fast as I should, so being able to hang back and let the minions do the work gives me a buffer for staying alive.
Ive always played Diablo 3 and I want to use necro in Diablo 2 resurrected, but I don't want to sink a bunch of hours into a character I won't like
Hey. I'd like to ask some questions in regards of either Summonmancer or Hybridmancer for Necromancer in D2.
The Fandom pages for those say that Skeletal Mage needs only 1 point. I could see that on Hybridmancer, but why not for Summonmancer? Don't we actually summon less horde if we don't put more points on the summoning?
It's been a DAMN while since I played a Necro, so I'd like to know. Thanks.
Not sure if it helps, but if you ever want to know the definitive guide to the "fishymancer", aka summon Necro, here it is. Nightfish basically became the authority on them back in the day.
Yeah, their damage just doesn't scale well past normal. 1 point with +skills is usually enough to get a couple ice mages out.
You're mainly using amp damage with a summoner and that doesn't help the mages.
It sucks, but something that was never really addressed.
I have been diving back into D2 and I have been focusing on the Necromancer (My favorite) and the Amazon (giving her a chance this time).
I am running the Necromancer as a Golem focused version with a few Poison and Bone Spells and a little bit of Curses to help Buff/De-Buff.
I have him at Level 28, Normal Mode, and have not touched the Skeleton Line of Skills.
QUESTION: Should I pick up a few of the Skeleton Skills (I have a +1 to Summoning Skills Wand).
you will not succeed as a summoner necro without skeletons
If you wanna play the necro as a summoner I would recommend you play the so-called fishymancer. Pretty much use summons to facetank for you, use debuff, let a skeleton kill one guy then you go ham with Corpse Explosion and kill everything on screen.

What I mean is that when I played I got to about level 10, and I died many times to the point that It wasn't fun. Is this a skill issue, me not building my necro right or both.
I recently got into the game after buying a ps5 after playing it in the early 2000's. I am currently a level 26 necromancer and have most of my skill points into the summon skill tree. I seem extremely underpowered in Act IV and Act III. Should I keep powering the raise Skelton skill or does it plateau in power?
I personally never played Diablo 2. And I also have no way to compare the Necromancer coming to Diablo 3 and the original one from Diablo 2. So with that in mind I have a couple questions.
Does the new Necromancer seem similar to how it used to be? Is it better or worse? Is it unique enough to interest Diablo veterans, or get newcomers to the series interested in playing the previous installments?
Also, since Diablo 2 is about $10 on the Blizzard store, would it be worth buying it if I never have? I've seen a little bit of gameplay for it, and the classes seem very cool, but I don't have much to go on.
Side question about Diablo 3: Why do I have to wait to get higher difficulties...... I really wanna play on Master already, but I also want to wait to play through the whole game once the Necromancer drops. I get they designed it that way on purpose, but maaaan, I just wanna play on the higher difficulties.
Made it through the whole game as a summoner build necromancer, playing on the easiest difficulty, so the whole game was a cake-walk.
Now I get to the final boss and all of my skeletons, golem and merc companion get absolutely nuked in less than a second.
I played through the whole damn game, what should I do now to make beating Diablo even remotely possible? I guess re-specing is the only option short of starting over or something? What would be a solid build to respec to though?
Pls halp, just want to finish this game I spent the last week playing through to get stuck at the very end. thx r/diablo2!!!
EDIT: THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT ADVICE THIS SUBREDDIT ROCKS WAY MORE THAN I COULD HAVE EXPECTED
There is an alarming amount of bandwagoning and circle jerking over the Necromancer. Even on the heroes of the storm reddit, I see people talking about how they want the Necromancer added. On this reddit, there's chanting for the Necromancer class to be added in an expansion (Druid too, but there's nothing too similar to shapeshifting-esque things in this game, so I can see why). I see people compare the Witch Doctor and Necromancer, and how the Witch Doctor is an "unsuitable replacement," and how the Necromancer is better. I personally love the Witch Doctor, and the Necromancer is cool (he was my first main character on Diablo 2 when I was young, and first person I beat the game with), but why the undying nostalgic love? What was so amazing about the Necromancer that prohibits people from moving on?
I think it has something to do with a dark sorcerer that raises the dead and cast curses and awesome spells. The Necromancer had a really versatile set of spells that still stand out as of today.
Think about curses. You had multiple choices and would interact well with your build. For example, Iron Maiden with bone prison, the slow curse with bone spirit for PvP, curse that reduces resist for your ridiculously large Mage army.
You also could choose your own tank (golem) along your army of skeletons or resurected monsters.
You could cast awesome spells along the side.
I just think it's the overall badass/diversity the necro had that makes people want him back. It was a really fun class to play.
For me, it's two reasons.
The Necro was a true minion army class. The Witch Doctor feels half assed in comparison. You can only summon a handful of permanent minions, others are only active during cooldowns, or tied to some gimmicky mechanic. A max level Necro could summon a massive army of dudes, and if it annoyed other people or dropped players framerates, well too bad son.
Secondly the Necro was aesthetically badass! Skulls, bones, spikes, and all that good diablo-y shit. They fit perfectly in the world and were just one of the coolest classes to look at. The Witch Doctor in comparison feels comedic and looks out of place within the rest of the game.
That said, I don't want them to be brought back in Diablo 3. I'd rather move on with new interesting classes and mechanics than rehashing the same stuff from the previous games.
