Best D2R necromancer build and tips for a new layer?
I’m assuming you’re playing solo and using what you find since not specified. Resist the urge to dump ALL your skill points in the “raise” skills. Yes having a massive army is nice, but useless if they’re made out of paper. Put points into the mastery skills as well to boost their HP and damage. Don’t go higher than a clay golem. They make excellent tanks. Remember your curses! Going all the way down to Decrepify can be a massive help for bosses. Speaking of bosses… You’ll probably make it through the game well enough till you get to the Act 2 boss. He’s demolishes summon necros. My last solo run I had to keep lvling till I hit 30 to use Decrepify on him. Gear, whatever gives you + skills. The wands at vendors can be very nice (and very expensive) so always check them out if you’re looking to upgrade. Don’t worry about tons of armor/defense, your army should be taking most of the hits. Which skills should I select for my necromancer?
Necromancers are amazing, there are a couple routes you can take. Bonemancer - you only take damage spells with some curses. Summoner - you put everything in better skeletons (DON'T get mages unless you have infinity). Poisonmancer - you own people with poison. Or you can go hybrid. Hybrid is most likely the more fun for you, get a couple strong skeletons along with your bone spells. More on reddit.com

How much Dexterity Does a Summon Necromancer Need?
Enough for Gear — Dexterity is great for increasing Block Chance, particularly with Homunculus, but if you are not planning on investing points to max that out, it is often not worth taking any additional Dexterity, as the return on Defense is very low.

How much Vitality Does a Summon Necromancer Need?
Everything else into Vitality — 250+ points. Every excess attribute point should be allocated to Vitality, as long as you can meet the Strength and Dexterity requirements of your items by the time you wish to equip them. Not only does this increase your Life total, but this also increases the chance for Healing Potions to crit, doubling their healing output. Further, additional Life reduces the chance that you will be put into hit recovery.

How much Strength Does a Summon Necromancer Need?
Enough for gear — For a Summoner using a Spirit Monarch, this will be 156 Strength as that is usually the highest Strength requirement for commonly used gear. If choosing to use another shield with lower Strength requirements, then just adjust your Strength to that value. This number always changes based on the gear you are using, though, so make sure to always double check the requirements for each piece of gear you have as well as how much Strength each piece will provide once equipped.

r/diablo2 on Reddit: Which skills should I select for my necromancer?
October 22, 2016 -
Hello Everyone. This is my first post here and I recently started playing Diablo 2 : LOD. I have been playing with my necromancer and basically the game style is that of a barbarian. I have not invested or used any of my skills uptil now and my character is at level 12. I can select upto 12 skills at the moment. Which skills should I select to use my necromancer to its full potential? Also made a back up copy of the character. I am on Act 1 and have just finished saving Cain.

http://www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/fishymancer-final-version-updated-for-1-13.798047/ I like this guide although I tend to not do the golem path he recommends, put less into corpse explosion, and I tend to max Skeletal Mage and put points in Revive. As he points out, this is all personal choice. The core of the build is 20 in Summon Skeleton and Skeleton Mastery. To give you a direct answer though, you want 1 point in Amplify Damage, 1-3 points in Skeleton Mastery, 1 point in Clay Golem, and the rest into Summon Skeleton. Then max Summon Skeleton followed by Skeleton Mastery. Keep in mind that as a Necromancer you have a lot of one point wonder skills. Other than your Skeleton skills, none of your skills have to be maxed to be effective. Amplify Damage, Dim Vision, Decrepify, Clay Golem, Golem Mastery, Revive, Corpse Explosion, and more are perfectly viable and useful with no more than one point invested. Items with +skills will give you all the scaling you need.
