9 Dinner Party Games For Your Next Gathering - The Good Trade
November 5, 2024 - You’ll need three to eight (adult) players, ideally a beverage of your choice, and this deck — choose from 49 conversation cards across three levels of questions, and see what unfiltered hot takes come out! If you’re not all of drinking age or just prefer more PG-rated cards, there’s also the Family DUI (Discussion Under the Influence) set which will bring the whole family closer together. ... Similar to Apples to Apples or Mad Libs, Cards Against Humanity is dubbed a party game “for horrible people.” You’ll each receive a handful of white cards with various sayings or phrases (think: “a bag of magic beans” or “the art of seduction”).

April 16, 2020 - The resulting titles offer more game for your money than the standard fare thronging the seasonal shelves of stationers and booksellers. They’re just as fun and funny, but offer more variety, challenge and replay value. So they’re ideal for entertaining at home and impressing your guests with something off the beaten track, alongside the exotic wine and obscure cheeses. Take the Time’s Up family, for example. After building a deck of 40 cards containing famous names, players take 30-second turns to communicate what’s on the card without saying it out loud.

r/boardgames on Reddit: Anyone know dinner games that are actually games?
April 15, 2024 -
We bought this dinner game kit a a flea market for $5. My kids love it.
The games are basically stuff you would do in a car ride (name a food that starts with A, then B. Someone says a word, the the next person says that words and adds to it, someone hides an object from the table and everyone guesses what it was, ect)
Does anyone know of any games like that that have a little more game-ness to it? It would have to be something without components (more maybe a pen a paper at the maximum) . We've run through all the cards at this point.

For two people, I really like a game I know as Meet in the Middle. To start, you each pick a starting word. It can be anything both players are familiar with. Snap your fingers slowly for 3 counts, then on the fourth beat you both say the word you picked at the same time. Then each player tries to "meet in the middle", meaning come up with a word that is in between the two chosen words conceptually. Do another 3 snaps and then speak your new words at the same time again. If you both say the same word, you win, if not, you repeat this paragraph finding the middle of the two new words. Once you get the hang of it, this game sounds like "snap.. snap.. snap.. [words].. snap.. snap.. snap.. [words]" etc. Start off with pretty slow snaps so you have time to think of your next word, then speed up a little when you get comfortable with it. Keeping a time pressure on coming up with words is important, it keeps players from getting too lost in the weeds and encourages them to rely on intuitive guesses. The game has both the fun of seeing the different ways your partner thinks about things, and also the good feeling of earning a cooperative win. Tip: Sometimes instead of narrowing down towards one word, players will kind of orbit around a few in a way that makes it hard to win. When you find yourself in that situation, bend the rules a bit and bring in a less related word. This can shift the "middle" to new territory and make it easier to reach. For example, in one round, we reached a point where we were picking planet names. I was trying to pick the planet "in the middle" of the planets we named, my friend was doing the same except ordering the planets by size instead of distance from the sun. We couldn't figure out each others reasoning, so we were circling around a win we couldn't reach. So when I used "Neptune" he used "car" to break out of the planet pattern. On the next round, we both got to "rocket ship" as the thing that is between a planet and a car.
