Creation Science and Biblical Interpretation, Job 40-41, Dinosaurs in the Bible?
No dinosaurs had this capability. Finally, young earth creation science is referring to creatures known as "plesiosaurs." However, plesiosaurs are not dinosaurs. For more, see Plesiosaurs. The second theory, put forth by modern Bible scholars, is that leviathan represents a crocodile.

It literally says “he ranks first among the works of god” everything in me wants to believe he was describing dinosaurs. Feel free to tell me the real meaning but if it’s not dinosaurs I’m sad

Not positive on this one but I’m pretty sure Leviathan is definitely a fire breathing dragon: “His pride is in his rows of scales, closely sealed together. One scale is so close to another that no air can pass between them. They are joined to one another, so closely connected they cannot be separated. His snorting flashes with light, while his eyes are like the rays of dawn. Flaming torches shoot from his mouth; fiery sparks fly out! Smoke billows from his nostrils as from a boiling pot or burning reeds. His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames pour out of his mouth. Strength resides in his neck, and dismay dances before him. The folds of his flesh are joined together, solid as metal and immovable. The sword that reaches him will have no effect, nor will a spear, dart, or arrow.” ‭‭Job‬ ‭41:15-23, 26‬

Truthfully, the creature described there along with Leviathan mentioned later are not dinosaurs. Well we don't exactly know what Behemoth looked like, but the description of Leviathan matches the description of other legendary monsters found throughout ancient near Eastern mythology, the closest parallel being the Canaanite sea dragon Lotan or Litan. When we take that into consideration it seems very unlikely that these creatures were anything within the natural realm, a point underscored by their depiction as creatures that are unable to be subdued by human means. Such descriptions would fall perfectly in line with what modern scholars refer to as chaos monsters, beasts that represented the forces of chaos that were unable to be subdued by humans but only by gods. This symbolic understanding of behemoth and Leviathan is found in later Jewish literature as well, such as in 1 Enoch, 4 Ezra and 2 Baruch, where they are envisioned as end times opponents of God and sometimes dwelling in remote places or places beyond the reach of mortals. An earlier example of this understanding of Leviathan as an agent of chaos is found in Isaiah 27 where it is described as the coiling twisting serpent that is killed by God at the end of time. The description used of Leviathan as coiling and twisting is also found in Canaanite literature as well. So no, behemoth and by association Leviathan are not describing dinosaurs. They are describing monsters that symbolize chaos that only God can bring into submission. They are not literal animals or rather they are supernatural entities.

Does the Bible Describe Dinosaurs in Job 40 and 41?
Many young-Earth creationists (YECs) assert that the book of Job in the Bible describes dinosaurs, and that in particular the creature called "Behemoth" in Job 40 describes a sauropod--one of the huge, long-necked, four-legged dinosaurs informally known as "brontosaurs."

How does this case stack up against the reckless assertion that “man could not have lived in a world full of dinosaurs, so by the time God created Adam the dinosaurs were gone” (Clayton, p. 14)? In addition to the foregoing, there is that context in the book of Job — regarding “behemoth” — that must be taken into consideration. In the second phase of the concluding encounter between God and Job (see Job 38:1ff), the Almighty said to the patriarch: "Behold, now behemoth, which I made. . . " (Job 40:15).

Are Dinosaurs mentioned in the Bible?
The Bible mentions two dinosaurs by name and describes them in great detail. "Behemoth" (Job 40:15-24) and "Leviathan" (Job 41:1-34) From the description found in Job, scientists have attempted to identify these animals. They believe "Behemoth" is a Hippo and "Leviathan" is a Crocodile.

September 23, 2025 - It is not used to denote the navel in any place in the Bible, and should not have been rendered so here (1949, 2:248). While many commentators have identified behemoth with the elephant or the hippopotamus, elsewhere I have argued that the descriptions given in the book of Job do not fit either of these animals (see Jackson, 1983, pp. 86-87) and that there is no valid reason for rejecting the idea that behemoth could have been some species of dinosaur.

Does the Bible Have Anything Specifically to Say about Dinosaurs?
Not Mythological Or Symbolic Creatures Though many Bible students think these creatures were mythological or merely symbolic creatures, these creatures were actually created by God. The following reasons show this to be true. 1.In Job 38:39-39:30 there are 12 animals that are mentioned by God. All of these are real creatures. This would indicate that the final two creatures mentioned would also be real. 2.God told Job to look at the behemoth (40:15).
