We currently have a ventless propane insert (using a LP tank). Neighborhood just had gas lines ran to the house and I’m looking at switching to gas so I don’t have to refill a tank. Looking at a direct vent insert since I also don’t like the idea of fumes coming in. Carbon monoxide scares me as well.
Got a quote for a FPX 36 Pro Builder Fireplace and installation for $7,350. Does this seem high. I wasn’t wanting to spend this much but there aren’t too many installers near where I live. Another option is the Valor H5 Direct Vent for $8,100 including installation.
Thanks!

What is a direct vent fireplace?
A direct vent fireplace is a modern, high-efficiency gas appliance featuring a sealed combustion system. It uses a coaxial (pipe-within-a-pipe) venting system to draw 100% of the air needed for the fire from outdoors and safely exhaust all combustion gases back outside.
How much does it cost to install a direct vent fireplace?
The total cost typically ranges from $4,000 to $12,000, which includes the unit, venting, gas line connection, and professional labor. The cost is highly dependent on the unit's features, the complexity of the vent run, and the finish materials (mantel/surround).
Are direct vent gas fireplaces safe?
Yes, they are widely considered the safest type of gas fireplace. The sealed system ensures that the combustion process is completely isolated from your interior air, eliminating the risk of carbon monoxide or other exhaust gases entering your living space.
