Get some Hargrove radiant heat logs for vented fireplace. They throw off much more heat than a standard gas log set. We originally had gas logs in our vented fireplace and there was almost no heat. Then I bought the Hargrove radiant heat logs about 15 years ago. Our family room which is 13 x 22 is heated very well by this log set. It's not the same as burning wood, but way better than most gas log sets in a vented scenario. And way cheaper than the inserts. More on reddit.com

It is a bit high, but it may depend a lot on your labor market. I'm in a high cost of living area and was quoted similar rates for the installation labor from reputable contractors. The parts appear to be "MSRP", so no deals there, but no giant markup. The Colinear kits can often be purchased direct from supply houses in the $400-500 range for the flex liner and the termination cap, for instance. The electrical work could possibly be split out and done for less if you have an "electrician buddy", though that depends on how complex the work is. All in all, nothing in the quote is "wrong", they are just being pretty conservative about it all and quoting rather high labor rates, which might just be where your location is right now.
