Fix Greyed Out Secure Boot on Asus 590 Tuff - Q&A
The important point here is that the "Secure Boot state" is set to "User." This indicates that Secure Boot is active and managed by pre-enrolled keys. To gain control, you will need to clear these keys. Here’s how to proceed on your ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS WIFI (or a similar model):

r/pcmasterrace on Reddit: Disabling Secure Boot on an Asus Motherboard
September 27, 2021 -

Hi all,

I'm trying to learn how to use linux on my laptop and I have downloaded an ISO onto a USB that I am trying to boot. However, safe boot is causing some issues when I try to boot from my USB. Does anyone know how to disable secure boot? My PC is one of the TUF models and the BIOS version is 2.20.0049 if that helps anything.

If anyone has any solutions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How To Disable Secure Boot on an ASUS Motherboard - Tech Junkie
May 30, 2022 - Before you disable Secure Boot mode on your computer with an ASUS motherboard, you should enable GPT partitions. For example, if you want to install a copy of Windows on your computer, you won’t be able to do it if the system is not in UEFI mode.

r/techsupport on Reddit: How do I disable Secure Boot?
October 16, 2024 -

I have a gaming motherboard from Asus and I have entered the Advanced Mode and gone to the "Boot" section, and entered the Secure Boot menu where "Secure Boot state" is "Enabled".

Secure Boot state Enabled
Platform Key (PK) state Unloaded
OS Type Other OS
Key Management

According to tutorials I found online, I'm supposed to enter Key Management and then "Clear Secure Boot Keys". But what on Earth does this even do? Will I be able to boot into Windows after I do this? Do I need to save it before I do it?

The only reason I want Secure Boot disabled is so I can use Memtest86+ which warns after installation that I need to disable Secure Boot for it to operate correctly (I suppose). Here's the exact message:

Memtest86+ 7.00 installed on USB Drive.

The necessary files are installed on your USB drive and the drive is now bootable.

WARNING: Memtest86+ 7.00 is not signed by Microsoft for Secure Boot. Disable it from your BIOS options before trying to boot this USB Drive.

So I'm having issues with Windows (corrupted DISM component store and unable to restore health or connect to Windows Update to fetch needed files, or use alternate WIM source), issues with RAM, issues with my SSD disk, and the last thing I need is Secure Boot to put the final nail in the coffin and render my computer completely unbootable. Just saying... I have a lot on my plate right now. Now this... Secure Boot mumbo jumbo! Please advise! Thanks.

I know you've managed to resolve it anyway, but I'm not entirely certain why they recommend you do that anyway. I know Memtest86 and Memtest86+ aren't exactly the same thing, but I ran v10.6 of the former earlier this year with secure boot enabled and didn't have to tamper with anything

I still have no clue what these keys and stuff are all about. All I know is that Secure Boot is a royal PITA. That's why I usually don't go near those settings. But more often than not, whenever I want to run some kind of utility like in this case Memtest86+ or something that's not Windows, it asks that I disable Secure Boot. I know it has something to do with certificates and stuff like that, or in other words chain of trust, and since Linux is not made by Microsoft and Microsoft owns the computer world, they get to dictate what kind of keys go on new motherboards. It' something along those lines. Right? Basically, Linux doesn't trust Microsoft, Microsoft doesn't trust Linux, everyone trusts Microsoft, and I don't trust anyone! Anyway! This is what I did. I saved those keys to my USB drive that I have Memtest86+ on already, just in case. Then I cleared the Secure Boot keys. Then the Secure Boot state changed to Disabled. I hit F10 to save. The stupid thing said I didn't make any changes, I said save it anyway. Then I entered BIOS/UEFI again to check if it sticks, and it does. Now I have 0 keys in Key Management! Enter BIOS/UEFI with F2 key or DEL key (I think this works too on Asus boards). Switch to Advanced Mode by pressing F7 key if it's in EZ Mode, otherwize skip to step 3. Go to Boot section/menu (no, not "boot menu" menu, hence my preference of the word "section" rather) by pressing right arrow key four times. Select "Secure Boot" and press Enter. Select "Key Mangement" and press Enter. Select "Clear Secure Boot Keys" and press Enter. You will get a prompt as stated below. Clear Secure Boot Keys Do you really want to delete the current Secure Boot keys? 7. Select Yes (it should be selected already) and press Enter. All your keys (PK, KEK, DB and DBX) should now be zero. 8. Press F10 to save changes. You will get stupid prompt as stated below. Save & reset Save configuration and reset? You have not made any changes to the BIOS settings. 9. Select OK and press Enter. 10. Done. Secure Boot is disabled. Official source from Asus can be found here: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1049829/ I still don't understand the table that Asus is showing on that page. By that I mean this table that I stole from them: Secure Boot OS Type Secure Boot Key Management Secure Boot State in BIOS Mode State in operating system User Other OS Customer Default Off User Other OS Standard N/A Off Setup Other OS Customer Clear Secure Boot Keys Off Setup Windows UEFI mode Customer Clear Secure Boot Keys Off User Windows UEFI mode Customer Default On User Windows UEFI mode Standard N/A On If anyone knows what all this nonsense is, please explain it to me like I'm five. Or at least link in a good article or a video that explains it well. Right now I have bigger issues to attend to. Now that I have Memtest86+ going, I almost immediately received a nice big "FAIL" splash in the log with nothing but pure ASCII art. I have left it to count up the errors. It was up at 2800 errors by the time I left it unattended to jot this down on another computer.

r/techsupport on Reddit: Can't enable secure boot on my Asus Rog Strix B550-f Gaming (wifi)
August 6, 2025 -

Here are my computer specs

Processor: Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI)

OS:Microsoft Windows 10 Home

GPU: RTX3070

I have my windows installed in a 1TB SSD.

The BF6 beta is coming up and their anticheat won't let me open the game because of secure boot. Turned out it is listed as Not Supported in my msinfo32 so I looked into it. I booted up my BIOS and changed the OS Type to UEFI, I apparently have some keys saved for secure boot cause I only had the option or clearing or saving, not of installing the default keys and all the keys I had are lifted as default. Went back to msinfo32 and it said the same thing. not supported.

Checked again, turns out I need to disable CSM, I do that and now I'm stuck in a BIOS loop, so I re-enable the CSM and windows launches normally. Now my question is, is the issue my SSD where windows is installed, is it the windows installation itself, or is the problem that my BIOS is apparently not TMP 2.0 compatible.

I would appreciate if I could get some answers on how to fix it.
