PLEASE READ! My father was sanding an outdoor patio set made from acacia wood. He started having chest pains and difficulty breathing. He was sanding on it for several days in a row. He thought he was having a heart attack and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. He was diagnosed with pneumonia. He is still in a lot of pain.
Australia blackwood, Acacia melanoxylon is known to cause pneumonia and respiratory problems in particular but a lot of the species seem to have some level of toxicity.
I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this? He is having trouble communicating with the doctors because they are busy with COVID and they wanted him out of the hospital as quick as possible because of COVID as well.
He does a lot of power carving and I have told him he should really wear a respirator and not just dust mask....I put a link to the patio set which has the grain of the wood on it. Some species are more toxic than others.
