Money market vs Checking/Saving
Money Market Accounts, like Savings Accounts, have limits on the number of withdrawals you can make. I have a Discover Savings account and it says my limit for the account is 6 withdrawals per month. Whether they are in forcing a penalty for giving over 6 I don’t know because I haven’t done it. This is from Discover’s site: How long will I be able to make an unlimited number of withdrawals and transfers in a single month from my Online Savings/Statement Savings/IRA Savings/Money Market Account? At this time, there is no set timeframe on if/when we will start enforcing transaction limits again on the number of certain types of withdrawals and transfers per month on savings and money market accounts. However, we will let you know if/when we will begin enforcing the limit again. Link to Discover’s site. More on reddit.com

Money Market vs Savings
Just opened a discover hysa! Been a credit card customer for like 10 years. So far the hysa is pretty easy to use, the app layout is slightly different for a savings account than a credit card so it’s taken me a bit to get used to. Other than that, my only other downside is the length of time for them to process a transfer or deposit. It does take the full 5-7 business days (of whatever their processing time is) which is annoying, but I immediately see the transfer listed as pending so I know it’s in the works. More on reddit.com

Discover banking? Opinions?
I have checking and savings with them. Very good US based customer service if you need to call in for anything. Free checks is nice. I would say they are one of the better banks I’ve used. More on reddit.com

Are money market rates fixed?
Most money market rates are variable, not fixed. That means the rate and APY you receive can rise or fall as market conditions change. A fixed introductory APY is the exception. During the promotional period, the fixed yield gives you a certain APY for a specific period of time. You might lose the fixed yield, however, if you don’t follow certain rules. An introductory rate may also require a deposit made with new money, which usually must come from outside the bank.

r/discover on Reddit: Money market vs Checking/Saving
November 20, 2023 -

I recently came to know about the money market account offered by discover and got curious about its benefits.

My understanding so far is that money market account has combined benefits of Checking+Savings (4.35%) account, however with a little lesser APY (4.2%).

Now what I’m wondering is if I let go of the additional savings from savings account, can I then use money market alone instead of Checking+Savings account?

I’m sure I might be missing something here. Please enlighten me..
