r/discover on Reddit: What are the chances of actually getting approved if you’re pre-approved?
June 28, 2023 -

The website says I’m pre approved for the student cards. I’ve applied before and I was denied before due to low income and no credit history. I now have about double the income ($15kish) I had when I first applied, a one year credit history with another card and a 684 credit score. Im wondering if you guys think I should go ahead with the application because I don’t want my score to drop from the hard pull for nothing.

Someone from Discover headquarters might have a bias towards me .

My credit is not the best but It’s not bad either . Currently at 640 Experian and 663 FICO because I closed one account and it dropped 63 points. however I built it up low 700’s within 3 months ago , Got an auto loan , approved for capital one secure card , got approved for a new credit card last week with $1500 CL even with my 640 credit score, Yet discover has never approved me for a secure card even when my credit score was at 701 . Yeah I give it up , they are not America express

I just got the Capital One Qucksilver. It hasn’t even arrived in the mail yet. I decided to see if I was pre approved for anything over at Discover, since I see you guys recommend it so often to newbies. They offered me the secured Discover It card. Should I get it and start building credit history for two cards, or will it look too bad to have two hard pulls so close together? Especially for a secured card...

r/CreditCards on Reddit: I discovered an open discover card line of credit I never applied for
July 23, 2025 -

About 2 months ago I was shopping around for my first credit card. After consulting this sub I saw that Discover and Capital one were good choices. So I decided to see if I could get pre approved for either of their cash back cards. At first I checked discover who denied me, and after checked Capital One where I was approved.

Since then I settled on the savors reward card and applied and was approved. But after paying off my first statement in full I was checking credit wise and saw that they had reported a $1000 line of credit with Discover that I never signed up for. My limit for capital one was only $300 to start and was just raised to $400.

I don’t understand how I could even be approved for that much higher of a limit after getting denied during pre approval or, more troublingly, how that account even got opened in the first place. There seems to be no charges on the account as per the credit wise report, but still I am confused.

Does discover automatically apply you after pre-approval or somthing?

I called their fraud dept to report it today and they said they will get back to me after an investigation. But in the mean time I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or any advice

January 28, 2020 -

I personally love Discover. I have both checking and savings with them and it's been only a great experience so far. I was goofing around and checked to see if I was pre-approved for any of their cards, as I haven't gotten a new line of credit in months. I was pre-approved for their Discover It Cashback but read all over that their pre-approval isn't always reliable, and since my score is only good-fair I was nervous...but I got a solid APR and I bank with them regularly, so I took a chance. Not only did I get approved, but I got approved for a higher CL than I was expecting. Just super happy. I hear that they run out of the pink card a lot so wish me luck I still get the color I chose lol

r/discover on Reddit: Chances of approval after Discover Pre-Approval and being denied for Bank Americard on same day?
March 2, 2023 -

I am looking for a balance transfer card after running up a balance on a Chase card. After much research, I applied for the Bank Americard and was unfortunately denied. I don't have any banking history with BoA.

I was pre-approved for the Discover Balance Transfer card and want to know what my chances are of being approved. My pre-approval shows a fixed APR after the into period, which I've read could be an indicator of approval chances. Worst case I am not approved and its another hard inquiry on my report.

I have had the Discover IT card since 2015, and my FICO scores are as follows:
TU: 730

Equifax: 723

Experian: 717 (dropped 3 points from the BoA hard inquiry today)

Overall credit utilization is 50%

r/discover on Reddit: I have One card with Discover, yet the Preapproval tool denies me due to Too many existing accounts with Discover
October 31, 2024 -

I currently have a Discover Chrome Card that graduated from the secured version back in late 2023. It was my first credit card, and I have currently amassed 6 total cards since then. My last Application/Approval for a card was the BILT card in October of 2024. I am a college student so I feel like getting the Dicover IT student card shouldn't pose much of a problem, yet whenever i have occasionally checked discover's pre approval for the card, they give me the response in the mail that I have too many accounts with Discover. This confuses me, because i only have the one card and everything online tells me they allow 2 and on rare occasions 3. Anyone have a similar issue or know why I'm running into this roadblock?

r/discover on Reddit: Can't Get Pre Approved for Any Thing (even Secured)
October 18, 2023 -

What's up y'all? Story time.

I've been e building my credit profile, around 2, 3 years after closing all my credit accounts (I know, bad idea; went through Dave Ramsey course and paid off debt). Mostly pros.

Since last year, I've built up around 15k of credit availability.

In regards to Discover, my last card with them (used responsibly), was closed after 6 months of non use (I didn't know that was a thing at the time).

In my pursuit of re building, I attempted to apply for one of their beginner cards. Using the pre approval process, I can't even get approved for the Secured Card.

The mailer reads it's due to "status of prior relationship" as the main cause. Even when I called (more than a few times, speaking to different people), I'm not given a valid reason as to why this is such a hang up.

Any thoughts?

TIA.

I have two new accounts, one from March and April. Discover's preapproval tool continues to reject me due to opening recent accounts.

If I apply for Discover It Cash Back, do I still have a good chance of getting the card? I heard that it's a easy card to get but their preapproval tool is making me nervous.

I only have three revolving accounts: 12/2019, 3/2024, 4/2024. My credit score is 793, income 150k, no debt, cheap rent. Never missed a payment, utilisation is at 2%.

r/CRedit on Reddit: Question about Discover (pre-approval)
November 24, 2024 -

Hi everyone, I have a FICO8 score of 850. Currently I have two credit cards: a Discover Chrome Card, and a Chase Slate card; I’ve had the Discover card for about eight years and the Slate card for about two years. I own my apartment and my mortgage, which I’ve had for 23 years, is current. My income is decent and my monthly housing costs are low for my area.

I just realized that a Discover cash-back card would be a better fit for me, since I no longer have a car and never purchase gas. So I called Discover and asked if it would be possible to do a (for lack of a better phrase) “lateral switch,” but was told that that was not possible and that I would have to apply anew for the Discover cash-back card. The woman I spoke with directed me to this page, where I could see if I was pre-approved. So I did and went through the process. Almost immediately, I got this response: “Thank you for your interest in Discover®Unfortunately, we don't have an offer for you right now. In 3-9 days, you'll get a letter with an explanation for this decision. Rest assured, your request did not impact your credit score.”

I don’t get it! What more would I have to do to get pre-approved?

I got the Discover secured card when I turned 18 and it’s now graduated and I got 2 other cards over the course of a year and a half but when I try to get pre approved for the Discover It student card there’s no offer. I want to know if I’m ignorance to something else that’s not letting me get an offer or does not getting pre approval tool mean I’m doomed to never get a card. My score is a 729 with no missed payments and 4% utilization over the last 2 months with 1 hard inquiry over the last 12 months.

So I tried applying for the discover credit card and see if I got any pre approvals but didn’t. I remember when I first tried before I had a credit card it said I can deposit $200 to get a 200 credit line, but I went with capital one and have 4 capital one credit cards, would like to have a discover card but it seems like I get denied when I apply and was wondering what could be done? I’m still waiting for the reason as to why I got denied but I’m wondering I opened a checking and savings account with them, would that help me eventually get a credit card or does that not matter at all?

Has any one been denied pre approval from Discover but applied anyway and got approved?

I was denied pre approval but was wondering if I should still go ahead and apply for it anyway.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
