April 3, 2018 - I had no trouble with using my Discover card (older) at a pet supply store in North Carolina last Thanksgiving when I needed to pick up litter for my pet rabbits. As I live in Virginia, it's possible that travel notifications aren't really necessary for regional travel, but more advisable for long-distance or international travel.
