Best way to design display ads/website banner ads
Haven't done any banner/display ads for about a year or so - hate em ha. But for static ads I'd probably still use photoshop. For animating I stay away from using Gifs, terrible quality and large file size for the space. Use any HTML5 builder for these. You can look at Google Web Designer and use svgs/pngs for the text incase it doesn't read properly on some browsers. You can also look at Creatopy - I used this last time and it is actually really good at creating multiple sizes from the one creative. You just have to give it the initial direction. I only use Canvas and Bannersnack. I like both. I find that Bannersnack has better templates for Display though. I am not a designer at all though! But my ads work well with these designs :) More on reddit.com

r/graphic_design on Reddit: Best way to design display ads/website banner ads
March 4, 2024 -

I recently started a new position as creative director at a marketing firm. I come from an editorial design background and while I have created digital content, the rate at which my team is working on ROS display ads and web banners is much greater than I had done before. The team is used to making display ads on Photoshop in order to export the images with web-optimized settings using the legacy "Export for web" function in Photoshop. I find this process utterly inefficient since sometimes we have to produce 10-15 different banner sizes and each file is saved separately. There's also the factor of having to make gifs to fit the required information in the smaller mobile banner sizes. I can further describe the inefficiencies of our method, but I wanted to ask, if you are currently designing display ads/web banners, how do you go about it? What software do you use? How do you ensure that the images will function optimally on web?

Any suggestions for how to go about creating display ads would be greatly appreciated.
