Hi there

I'm hoping to create an acrylic box with a lid that sits securely over the box. I'm having difficulty finding a file or advice online so would greatly appreciate any advice you may have. I've included a link below as to what I'm hoping to achieve.

the sides seem to be cut at an angle and glues together. Could this be achieved without angling the cut? If not any advice on how to ange cut?
the lid has a thicker piece in the centre so it sits in place. Not sure how I would achieve this without sticking 2 sheets of acrylic together.

One thing to keep in mind is that lasers don’t cut perfectly square, there is always some taper from the beam. This makes square joints more difficult than if it’s cut with cnc or a saw.

This is a function of basic woodworking knowledge (and I'm not a life long wood worker, so this isn't me throwing shade). You want to research different joint types. The angled cuts I believe are referred to as miter joints (could be wrong though, so don't quote me on it). What you're describing wanting to do is called a butt joint. If I were trying to do what you're looking to do, I would make a base piece of solid acrylic square that was the thickness of your material + that thickness on all four sides, and glue down a smaller sized square subtracting that thickness from the first square to make a "step" you can easily use to place each piece. I'd make two of the walls wider by that thickness measurement than the other two so that two walls can rest inside the other two, and then glue all the seams together. Do the same thing for the top you did for the bottom and you've got a proper box without needing something like finger joints to hold it together. There are box generating apps and websites out there for laser and CNC applications also, just depends on the joinery style you're looking to employ.
