r/CampingGear on Reddit: Portable Fire Pit for Beginners?
September 11, 2021 -

Hi. I hope it's okay posting this here as I wasn't sure where the best place would be for it. I'm looking for some recommendations for a small portable fire pit. My family is going to a cabin for the holiday and I want to be able to give my kids their first experience cooking hot dogs and smores over the fire.

The problem? I'm an absolute dummy when it comes to this stuff. Never started a fire on my own, don't know much about it. And honestly, my husband's not much better. We have friends that have the Solo Stove and were looking into that, but it's so expensive and I've read that it's not good for cooking because it burns too hot.

I've also seen the Fireside pop up fire pit and that looks like it might be more my speed. Seems simple enough to set up and use and we don't need anything fancy. Like I said, we're not looking for a massive fire, just the experience of having one and roasting some marshmallows and hot dogs.

So can you all help me out? What do you think?
