A DIY standing desk converter can be built using various methods, ranging from simple to more complex designs. One approach involves constructing a converter from 3/4-inch plywood with a trapezoid-shaped base and adjustable shelves that fit into slots on a back board, secured with friction and V-notches to prevent leaning back. This design uses tools like a track saw, jigsaw, router, and various bits for shaping and finishing the pieces. Another method uses pipe and Kee Klamp fittings to create a frame that supports a custom table top, allowing for height adjustment and monitor mounting via VESA brackets. For a low-cost option, items like sturdy books, cardboard boxes, or empty product cartons can be stacked to elevate the desk surface, with non-slip pads used to secure equipment. More advanced builds may incorporate linear actuators, control systems, and power supplies for motorized height adjustment, though these require more technical expertise and components. Additionally, some users have successfully converted existing desks by adding adjustable legs or frames, such as those from Flexispot or Autonomous, which can be placed under existing cabinets to support a countertop. These solutions offer flexibility and cost savings compared to purchasing a full standing desk, with the added benefit of being able to switch between sitting and standing positions throughout the day.

I designed this minimalistic 'desk converter' to create a standing work station from any table using wood and bended steel. Appreciate any feedback.
DIY Standing Desk

Hey everyone! I’ve got the basic ikea desk setup I really like and I work from home and game here, so I spend a lot of time at this desk.
Lately, I’ve been feeling the effects of too much sitting and I’m looking to convert my current setup into something that lets me stand part of the day—without having to replace the whole desk.
I’ve thought about standing desk converters, but I’d love to hear any creative (DIY or otherwise) suggestions. I’ll drop a pic of my setup below—what would you do to make this a sit/stand combo?
Appreciate any advice!
