Get a piece of wood at wide as you need and then using smaller blocks wrap it around the existing mantle on the sides to secure it. You could have some screws come from underneath that would be hidden from direct view or make something that would compress into the existing mantel. Paint it all white and then secure the TV to this piece somehow, such as mount like someone proposed. It would be completely removeable. Update: just to add, as mentioned in the comments you could also just use a few small C-clamps where the arrows are to secure for a real quick and simple solution. Hide the clamps with pictures, plants, etc. Answer from schirmyver on reddit.com

r/DIY on Reddit: I can’t mount a TV to the wall. How can I make a tv stand that fits here
January 4, 2024 -
I have a mantle that is 6 1/2 inches at chest level. For the TV to stand on its legs it needs another inch or two.
I need to find a way to have the TV on the mantle without using those legs so it can still be stable.
Any ideas?
My thoughts:
add a small piece of wood at the front of the mantle so it can’t slip off.
add rubber padding to the bottom of the TV itself so it doesn’t move.

Don’t put a TV above a fireplace. I know the seating points that way and ‘it combines two focal points on the one wall’ but it’s too high. When you’re sitting down the horizontal centre line of the screen should be at eye level. If you mount the TV up high and have to tilt it downwards it’s uncomfortable to watch. It also looks ugly to have a big black mirror over your mantle piece. Find an attractive tv cabinet or stand, perhaps on wheels, and put the tv to one side. r/TVTooHigh
